MS FLIGHT Updated Site!

Anybody remember the survey Microsoft did about a year and change ago?

How about thinking what happened to old favorites like Falcon. In the years to come FSX will find the going tougher and tougher. It will be obsolete and struggling too. We all will be wishing for something because of it. AND Microsoft Flight might become that something.

Food for thought. Don't kill it before it is born.

Jim

I agree with Lionheart, lets all wait to see how they deliever. I remember all the ranting by some before FSX was released and those who detracted it back then have made the switch to FSX fulltime.

if i may quote part of microsoft's introductory sentence.

"" redesigned to make the experience easier for virtual fliers of all interests and skills.""

I'm not going to speculate on what that means software wise, but i will admit i believe that FSX is in no threat of it whatsoever..

well at least we know one thing ... it'll have a sterman in one shape or form included :bump:

Q: How does Games for Windows – LIVE factor in?
A: Games for Windows – LIVE introduces a new level of connectivity to virtual flight, enhancing both the social and game play experiences of the title. Content is updated virtually. You can fly solo or join an entire global flight community online. You can easily connect with and facilitate flight experiences with your friends. The addition of Games for Windows - LIVE creates an ubiquitous virtual world of flight that offers easy and engaging access to the magic of flight for all.

I'd say I like it. It looks like Steam friends feature. If I had friends added to the list in Flight I can see where they are, what they are doing, and join them in flight if I (and them) want to.

I wouldn't count on it, Stiz, both video clips of the Stearman are real world, photo too..

It's just MS doing :173go1:

cheers,

Just my little bit... IF this is an "On-Line" game only, it will certainly impact on the likes of us here in South Africa where we have limited bandwidth to play around with & very limited connectivity.
Our VA works with previously disadvantaged kids & it is easy to fire up FS on a stand-alone PC.

I am probably/definitly being repeatative, but Microsoft have given us the basic flight sim engines, & it it heartfull thanks to all those freeware (& payware) add-on guys that have made us build & modify both FS9 & FSX to give us what we want to get out of our FS passion. (just like taking an old car & adding enough bling to it to make it perfect for what we want) As we all know, we are still finding amazing stuff to tweak & fly.

Our hobby/passion will be stagnant without the likes of Bill, Milton & others far too numerous to mention. FS9 will obviously keep on going (hopefully), FSX, the Vista/dog of Flight Sim, will still be tweaked to get smooth flying, MAYBE this "Flight" will fill some sort of gap (dunno what kind). Anyway, good to speculate about what could be "Cloud Software"

Why do you assume it will be on-line only?

Just to add my 2 cents. I doubt that this will be an "Online-only" game, but it will be heavily leaning towards online features. You will be able to play disconnected, but won't be able to use the full features of the simulator if you do.

Also, I believe that there will be a XBOX 360 version as well. There is a low burning console war in existence and it is at a stalemate, but Nintendo with its Wii has captured the family entertainment market and the other two makers (Sony and Microsoft) want a piece of that large market as well. It makes sense for them to do a flightsim with easy features for console use and a full fledged one for the pc user. To achieve that, a clear set of rules must be laid down so the "easy" version just runs on automatic (just the basic flight controls and some basic actions) while the full fledged (the realistic one) one needs user intervention. The physics engine will be as real as it could be with AI helpers for the "easy" one. This is my opinion and I could be wrong.

According to their ad it will be a "solo" player too.....so you don´t worry now!!!!

One thing is for sure. There is no competition of worth any where else!, out of Europe there has been some wining but no soap so far!!!!...After 40 years in this software world the evolution wave in always moving toward the shore. Like OS or Virus detectors, "games" must evolve and get on with the surge. I sure was mad at FSX for a while, then I realized that it was just the software push which will never stop as long as there is hardware that will challenge it. I know MS, like all of you, and its not a saint of my devotion, but I am sure happy they are on the wave in our hobby, remember our wimping when the Aces were shot down?? no matter the likes and dislikes percentages. Look how many just left FS9 in the pages of history, thus we will see FSX in those pages too...Too bad I am so old (???) for down the road, 30 years from now, what will flight siming really do???....:kilroy:

Based on what Orbx, Razbam, Aerosoft, VS and Many Other talented and dedicated developers have been able to accomplish within FSX, I ain't going nowhere for a long time to come.

My sim never ran better and never looked better.

Whatever MS is planning, they will have to go along way to prove it to me before I ever move to another platform. And whatever it turns out to be, it will have to run rings around what I now see in my sim.

If their plan is to cut out 3rd parties from the new platform, I will not support it...ever! Can you just imagine MS selling us a new F-100 Super Sabre? A what says MS? ... yeah, that's what I thought.

"Never say never"....old quote.

What makes you believe that? It's been plainly stated now in at least two official sources that it is a PC only title...

Microsoft Flight" is a new PC game from Microsoft Game Studios.
(emphasis in RED mine)

That seems pretty unambiguous to me!
