They´re smallish, but can sting...

Yes, I remember a member of my Dad's RC club, many years ago, having to pay for a new windshield on another member's car. :isadizzy:

LOLOL... .

Reminds me of my own RC flying.. Last time I flew the beat up, taped up, glue-laden Super Cub, it disappeared behind some houses, pulled back up, dipped down again, pulled back up, dropped down to a roof top and riquashayed off the top, and impacted into a side street, luckily taking no one down with it.

The trees fear us....!

That is very funny lol :icon_lol:

I see in some of those crashes the RC plane is launched then comes and hits the flyer in the back of the head....... How does that work? Too much lift??

I also see a little stupidity there....... launching straight into a football goal.....

This is why I do not do RC flying and instead invest that money in FS. Cause I would be one of the people on the videos. :icon_lol: At least I can hit reset and get my airplane back. I feel bad for the people who spend years building some of these models, only to have them crash in a matter of seconds. The one guy comes to mind who had the RC F-18 (with real jet engines mind you) crash. Think people said that model cost in the neighborhood of some $20,000USD.

Those are styrofoam gliders with the adjustable elevators set WAY too high.

Wow,............just wow. I kept laughing,...but as Roadburner stated,...ya' can't help feel for the persons who put in tons of time and money into their RC aircraft only to have it quickly crash. I was in RC years ago. I still remember the pain at times.

I want an RC plane...and want one very badly...but I know that I WILL crash it. When you fly RC aircraft, it isn't IF you crash, it's WHEN you crash. Deb has, more than once, given me the OK to get an RC plane...but I won't because I know that I WILL crash the plane.

I have watched a gazillion of these videos showing RC planes crashing. The one that made me cringe the most was of a LARGE scale B-52. 8 jet engines....and those things range from 3 grand each all the way up to 15 grand each. The plane took off beautifully, then a gust of wind got up under the right wing, the plane rolled hard to the left, nosed down and kept going. Hit the ground...BOOM! Up in flames! 8 jet engines gone.....24,000 to 120,000 dollars worth of RC jet engines gone in one crash...not counting the time and money it took to build, paint, detail and rig the airframe and all the electronics on board.

Yeah, I want an RC plane...but like RoadRunner...I will stick with my sim. I can crash time and time again (and I do) and it does not cost me a penny. And...I can crash hundreds and hundreds of different planes each week and it still doesn't cost me a penny. And once I crash the planes, they are instantly whole and flyable again.

the secret is to join an R/C flying club. learn what you're doing before risking the expensive toys. but if you can fly simulator without crashing,R/C should be no biggie.

Obio, I've seen the R/C B-52 video and that was not good weather to take that monster up. Overcast with gusty winds. When I saw the wing drop I knew something bad was gonna happen, just like the real B-52 crash at Fairchild AFB some years ago. :frown: You can start out in R/C with a gentle beginner-type plane that won't splinter into a thousand pieces when you auger in, then get something better once you gain experience. You ought to give it a try.

Psst.

Indoor RC helicopters.

No one sees you crash... :icon_lol:
(Plus you don't have to drive all the way out to a field, to pick up the pieces and go home...)

And there in lies the problem.....I can fly sim without crashing.....but not for long. Sure, if I just fly nice level flights I can fly from coast to coast without a problem. But I get BORED flying all nice and level...so I start flying upside down, doing loopy loops, buzzing barns and houses, swooping under bridges....and that type of flying always ends up in me crashing. I fear that I would find level flight in R/C boring after a while and start doing STOOPID things and crash the plane. My Attention Deficient Disorder tends to pull me toward STOOPID things.

Lets just say I've crashed my share of RC everything while getting the learning/cocki-ness out to feel confident..

Years later I was the president of the club. Being an accomplished flier, I was training a new guy who built his first plane. It was the type made of corrugated plastic. Almost indestructible. I got it in the air for him, made needed adjustments for level flight and handed him the controls. He was doing good and decided to try some low passes over the runway. He did two passes, and on the third a gust of wind caught him (and everyone else) by surprise. Needless to say, he planted the plane into the side of the hobby shop owners van leaving HUGE dent...lol. Was an interesting day

Reminds me of back in the 60s and 70s seeing grown men cry after their RC plane crashed and was totaled out.

Why doesn't anyone ever complain about the flight model of R/C planes :ques:

There is no "flight model" per-say. The models are usually built up on a flat/level surface. Generally laying down or at 90 degrees to the plan. While making sure things are straight and square. Most airplanes have squareness on the interior and are built inside out. If that makes sense. Similar to building a house. There are even instances where dihedral jigs are used to build in an up-swept or down-swept wing. So the flight model so to speak is built into it as you progress. Then once the building portion is finished, the exterior coverings and paint is applied. Then radio gear, fuel tank, engine and so on. The airplane is then balanced left to right and front to back to set the center of gravity. Most times that is all adjusted by moving the radio gear fwd/bck/left/right inside the fuselage. Sometimes extra weight is needed. That's when lead or a heavy coating of epoxy can be used. Depending on the aircraft style and the way you fly depends on all factors as to the final balancing.

A quick explanation, but it gives you the idea :)

I have been wanting to get an RC plane for many years. I had a Cox 2-channel when I was youngster. I think I only flew it maye 3 or 4 times. Half the time we took it out we couldn't get it to start!

I have been looking at this site a lot as they are realatively inexpensive and offer most of their planes in RTF. And if you buy one of a line, you can get the ARF versions for little less and use the same transmitter.

They have a lot of scale WWII stuff. So I have been looking at their $93 warbirds or this 55" Cessna trainer....

Anybody have any thoughts? I already checked, and I'm pretty sure you can buy spare parts. I know you have to be careful with online purchases with regards to ordering spare parts should you break something...er..... WHEN you break something!
