What I'm working on...

Oops!

As I was writing up my comentary on the campaign, I realized I forgot to do the attack on Buka in November of 1943. So I spent most of the afternoon building that mission and made the target photo for it.

NOW I plan to do my flight testing and final adjustments, starting tomorrow evening (turkey permitting) or on Friday. :wiggle::wiggle:

My question months ago was not AI kamikazes but being able to fly yourself as a kamikaze. I think that would be cool.

Well Tony everything is out there for you to make the missions as a Kamikaze,so just do it. You won't be able to do a campaign because once you are killed it ends the campaign. You actually said you needed someone to do it for you. Sometimes you have to do for yourself when others don't want to do it. Get the Kamikaze pack and read Cody's mission builder tut and make some missions.

BTW - What ever happened to that update of the plane guns you were working on?

Good to see you back in action.

Hey Talon, thanks. I will probably go back into hybernation after this one.:wiggle: When you are on Skype again, I have some questions about the kamikaze altitudes. Maybe you can help.

PS: I flight tested the first 2 missions this AM and made adjustments. The campaign will consist of 16 missions chosen randomly out of a total of 30.

Progress Report:

Flight testing continues... I've finished 7 out of 30 missions so far. The Guadalcanal CAP mission is tough! I had a few issues, but came up with solutions. It seems that there's a problem with the FDGv2 SBD-3. The USS Saratoga skinned version works fine when used as AI, but when it is used as the player aircraft, the game won't "initialize" it. This is a problem Rami told me about some time ago that occurs sometimes when there are multiple skins in one aircraft folder. There are two solutions: One is to package it in it's own folder - that would require me to include the aircraft in the campaign download or explain in detail in the README how to repackage it (too complicated for some users) - making the download/upload much larger. The second solution is the one I chose... find an FDG SBD-3 skin that will initialize as player aircraft. I hope I don't have the same problem with the SBD-5 in later missions. :)

To avoid the possible problem noted above, I had already separated and included in the package the FDG2 F4F-4_Wildcat_VMF-221 (3mb). I don't anticipate having any problems with the F6F-3 or TBF-1 as both are The B-24 Guy's mods. The FDG F6F-5 and F6F-5(N) are both seperate downloads, so I expect no problems there either.

Looking over my notes, I saw no reference to the SBD-5 being used in night missions. When I get to those, late in the campaign I'm gonna remove those Dauntlases and substitute with a few Avengers.

Still some problems

The problems noted above with the Saratoga skinned FDG SBD-3 have manifested themselves with the FDG Corsair Mk II (all of them) even as an AI plane and even when I loaded one into a seperate folder. Since the player doesn't see them anyway except at a distance, I substituted the stock Corsair. ...one less download for the users.

I did find a FDG SBD-5 in the package that would initialize, so I left it alone.

I'm flight testing the last 8 missions next. :jump:

PS: Since the British Barracuda, like the Corsair Mk II is only seen at a distance and for 2 missions, do you think I ought to use the SBD instead and save the users another download? Let me know whay tou all think.

I nearly always have a peek at the other formations on my side by external view or, preferably, by flying along. So, for me, I´d prefer another download to keep it historicaly correct at least in the type of plane.

Thanks for your efforts and I hope you are really enjoying this process of MB,

Cheers, Discus

Noted Discus. :salute: Keep in mind that the strike group with the Fleet Air Arm planes is a couple of miles away and attacking a seperate target set. I'm having problems with the Barracuda, (See: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=46177 ) so I may go ahead and replace it with the SBD-5.

Besides the 4 strike missions with the Barracuda to fix, I have only one more to complete and flight test. Any volunteers for Beta testing? The whole package should be ready NLT Tuesday. :jump:

I have finished and flight tested the missions, done the target photos and done the .cmg file. For want of something to do I am adding random chance elements to the spawning of some enemy aircraft.

Here is a copy of my required downloads list... too much?

I think that if your aircraft from the Saratoga are coming to Bomb they should see what they actually saw on that day. to whatever degree possible.I am all for reality whenever possible. Put in the eye candy. If all some people want to do is shoot something, and not worry about the scenery, then they should stick to QC and not bother installing Campaigns. They don't need a story line .Just a target. Not necesarily a bad thing for some.Just my opinion.BLONDI:cost1:

What I need is a replacement or a fix for Usio's JMK_Nisshin seaplane tender. For some reason torpedoes seem to pass under her despite the angle or range.

think you find that its a dp problem. If the damage boxes don't extend low enough then the torps have nothing to hit. Have you tried TR's torpedo?

regards Collin:ernae:

Collin:

I found and downloaded the TR torpedo and the dp for it. I can't use it because the dp doesn't have all the payloads that The B-24 Guy's TBF-1 conversion has and I would have to change all the missions that use 500lb salvo as a payload. I would have to edit all the missions that use the "mk-13"torpedo to read "mk-XIII" torpedo. And I couldn't edit either dp and upload it with my package because I'm sure TR doesn't want his "stuff" uploaded here.

I'll keep trying to hit it and use a substitute for Usio's Nisshin if I have to... it's in only 1 mission.

For Sake of Brevity...

... Couldn't you just re-name the torpedo to get the required results ?

Unless, of course, it's NOT just for your "private" use....

Unless someone can talk me out of it, I'm going to use Usio's Ryujo with a couple of seapllanes parked next to it.

I''m also going to add one or two more "what if" missions to add to the randomness.

I f you uae the Pen32Win dp file for the JMK_Nisshin seaplane tender it will take torpedo damage and sink. I did a test mission with 4 Avemgers attacking it with torpedoes and all hit and sank it.

I took your suggestion as we discussed on Skype... will flight test tomorrow. Thanks good buddy :)

I also finished one of the two optional missions for the "what if" strike on Zuikaku and Shokaku. :jump: They will be fighter and bomber missions and 33% chance of activation with the Solomons CAP mission.
