'Avro Arrow Released'

From the sample manual, it looks good indeed. I just hope that people buying don't go by the minimum specs mentioned in the manual for FSX (1GHz Processor, lol). Can I hear you say 1FPS......

  • Available Disk Space: 300 MB (space required to install the Arrow add-on software and documentation)
  • Video Card: 64 MB (128 MB or more recommended), DirectX® 9.0
  • Other: Sound card and speakers, joystick, wheelmouse, Adobe® Reader® 8.0 or later
 
I have the FS9 install on an older machine, and there are no major FPS issues. But the VC does take a little extra time to draw, but after that its fine.

The package offers both marks. The exterior is well done, as are the sounds and cockpit. No 2D, but that doesn't matter. I realized on my last flight I couldn't operate many of the switches because of F1View which I suspect needs to be disabled. The mouse wheel action is used for the switches, but is overridden by F1view.

The manual is big and informative, but doesn't mention the F1View issue. One thing I would like (with any payware) is a summary of the annimations. For example, I noticed the AS version has a weapons bay for their Mk. 2. I don't think the XP version does, but I don't know for sure cause I can't find a reference in the manual.

I also had some challenges with the flight dynamics. They seemed too sensitve for my old controller in the pitch and elevator arena. I wasn't sure if this was typical for the real thing, or something else.

So, I'm curious to hear if others are experiencing the same and anything they can share. It is a lovely plane.

I have the older Avro Arrow by Alpha Sim installed in CFS2 and love that plane. Mach 2 is as stable as sitting on the runway with engines off....and that is a rare thing in a sim designed for aircraft with a top speed below 500 mph. CFS2 and jets....they coexist okay, but are not in love.

My friend bought this model and we gave it a whirl against my Alphasim model(the current version) and I have to give the Alphasim model the tops on this one. Better detail exterior and interior, better sounds and effects, and the flight model on the Alphasim version seems pretty much on mark with the data I have read about the real Arrow as close as possible.

Well, that killed this thread. :costumes: Just kidding.

I don't think we're comparing the two products. I already bought mine from Xtreme Prototypes because I wanted to try their product and because I already have tons of AlphaSim products.

I'd still like to hear from others who have the XP Arrow and get their impressions. The XP website doesn't have a forum or anything, so that's why I'm trying to keep this thread alive.

looks like an interesting product.

I checked out their website but couldn't find any information regarding realistic systems simulation (engine starts, fuel management, etc.). Almost all the "features" listed has to do with visuals and effects.

So how "deep" is the actual simulation? How much of that VC is functional vs "just animated buttons)? I skipped the AS model because i know their version is very light in this respect.

yeah, i've read that page a few times now. But all the features are things like: reflective surface, 900 parts, 3d VC, tons of animated parts, backlight gauges, etc. All visuals and effects. I don't see a single feature for system simulation such as correct engine start process...

but i'm downloading the manual now. If it does simulate all the major systems, then i might purchase this plane :)
