Here's a sticky for ya...... Storch is RELEASED !

==> "I like these opposition ailerons. Does anybody know what these are supposed to do?

This is a "Flettner rudder":
A Flettner rudder or Flettner flap is in an auxiliary aircraft flap on the rear part of an aileron, which moves automatically opposed along with every swing of the aileron.
This small rudder/flap can be moved so as to induce hydrodynamic forces on the aileron assisting in moving it.
Their aerodynamic effect supports the applied pilot's control force. It causes a reduction of control forces applied by the pilot.
The Flettner flap was developed in 1927 by the German aircraft engineer Anton Flettner.

Sorry. It is Sunday morning now and a glorious sunny and cloudless sky welcomed us over the Alps. No time for FS'ing..... and no word from Simon yet.

I can only repeat it: he lives in a small village in South Africa where they ample have electricity, and no internet to speak of. We'll just have to be patient until the next time he paddles downstream to reach the missionary post with the one Internet PC...... (or so I imagine... :icon_lol: ).

WIP Finland

Ok, here's a WIP for a FAF Storch. Still need a lot of work (realigning for instance of the roundels...proper registration etc...:icon_lol: ).

Though Finland only got 2x Storchs (ST112 & ST113) they carried a lot of different paint schemes. This one is based on the one located in the Finisch Aviation Museum with its latest civil registration OH-FSA...yes it's easy to that one too.
More will follow...

Small update WIP

Ok, a small update WIP Finland Storch. Finally got the lining of the fuselage being more visible, but as you look closely, the rear fuselage has become a bit darker than the rest of the aircraft......darn, back to the drawing..eh color board. :costum:

I wish a real layered kit will be available if possible.....

I bought the Storch and am enjoying it a lot. Love the features such as wing folding, fuel gauges on the wings and ability to open little window flaps.

Issue
The only issue I have is the low sound in the VC (others have mentioned this). The sound of wind rushing in through the little window flaps is a great immersive feature but it is too low to hear well (barely audible)

Anyone have a fix?

Engine sounds
I personally prefer the engine sounds another member, big-mike, posted earlier
http://library.avsim.net/login.php?Location=/download.php?DLID=160782

I copied the Argus and xArgus RPM 1-4, starter, startup and shutdown files ONLY to the Storch's sound directory from the AVSIM version.

I then edited the sound.cfg to change the filenames.

I did this to keep all the other Storch sounds.

I am wondering if this is correct?

Also I note the "parameter" numbers for each sound file are different in the AVSIM version. I did not copy these...should I have?

Hello François,
IS the Storch going to be released in simmarket too?

Probably yes.
The problem is that the big distributors take so much out of our modest profits that it is making it increasingly difficult to justify putting products in their shops. :kilroy:

I am still traveling, so don't expect it there until early October.

We'll also have a CD version in October and are working on other additions.

Kind regards,
Francois

An UPDATE from Simon

As you know, Simon does not have forum access from where he lives, so contacts go through me......

Here's his latest update to all of you !

First of all Simon is VERY GRATEFUL for all the kind and positive comments, notably on SOH !

Simon: ".......

The reason why I used .bmp textures for the prop is because dds format gives an erratic fast prop animation on my system.

The interior sound is muffled because the pilot has a flying cap on. The tik- tik engine sound comes from "stitching" together small samples of the Storch engine sound recorded from the Internet. These samples are not very clear so it was a bit of a struggle for me to refine and remove noise. I am definitely not a sound-engineer :)......but I will see If I can put together a better sound package.

I will upload the layered texture files soon. I do not know if this will help the re painters because these layered files is:

Layer 1: the paint kit you have already.(Used for all of my paint schemes)
Layer 2: the insignia and lettering
Layer 3: Panel lines which is also used for the bump maps,

There is not a common layer for weathering. If you look closely you will see each of my paint schemes have different weathering.

I will also upload replacement textures that have the swaztika.

Then if you can please tell all the customers their comments are very much appreciated. It means a hell of a lot to me. Sometimes I feels like giving it all up....then I read again their appreciation for what we do and I get new strength to carry on.

.............".

I am still in France and will be back in office on Sep 17th, working on these things from there on.

Thanks everybody !!!

Thanks for the update François. Tell Simon the SOH hopes he has made a few quid out of this, especially as he is jobless at present!

I agree with Roger Francois!! Thanks for the update mate!.

Lets hope this mental boost will get Simon building more magnificent aircraft!!

Great to hear the layered paint kit is underway, sure will ease the job, but in the meantime..............

......almost done.

Cheers,
Hank

Thank you for the update Francois. It's always good to hear back. Even if Simon is in Africa, least he's trying the best he can to communicate with customers. I haven't had much time for flying, so to speak, but I feel my money was well spent. I really hope the best for Simon, and hope he continues bringing us more great models so we can all enjoy them. Wishing you the best Simon.

Thank You! :medals:

Thanks for all the comments, folks ! Yes, Simon certainly is doing his best under the circumstances. I keep collecting your comments and questions and send them off once a week.

The repaints look good already ! Thanks !

We'll also put the Storch in the 65+ range as soon as we get that set up in the shop.

:icon_lol:....thanks Yoyo, I already corrected it. A good thing to make enough pictures while checking a repaint in FSX......though I just discovered it when I reread the thread. :icon_lol:

Cheers mate,
Hank
