HELP! NOW what have I done?

I just installed all of the European mesh and extras called for in Rami's ETO install guide. I felt like I was following the directions, but now have this error msg showing and no scenery loads at all. Clearly I have screwed the pooch on this, but I can't figure out what I did. Please help!

I have reached a point (limit) where I cannot install any new scenery in my Europe install. If I try, it will crash to desk top when I click 'OK' in the scenery install section. The airfields I tried to add will not appear in the selection menu, but they are there and I can fly from them if I use the the exact location Lon. & Lat.. If I try to remove some older scenery to free up some room the same thing happens, CTD and the removed airfields are still in the airfield selection menu, but they are not there if you try to fly from them. I can still fly in FF and QC, there are no prblems there. After a CDT I just re-inter the game and and fly.

I tried to install a fresh scenery cfg, but it had no effect on the airfield selections. All the old scenery cfg scenery airfields were still in the airfield selection. I would have thought a clean scenery cfg would remove all the airfields. Additionally, there are some China and SEA airfields in the selection that I cannot find any where in the root files. Hope someone has had this issue and can advise. Thanks!

Is there any way that you can post a copy of your scenery, cfg file?

Thanks Rami, I'll see if I can do it. By the way your instructions were on the mark. My previous problem was my fault. An old man like me shouldn't be up till 3:00 AM fooling with adding scenery:icon_lol:.

NOT TO HIJACK THREAD BUT....

Rami;
I read your scenery.txt and have a few questions.
1) do you have Rhumbaflappys bgls installed?
(2) Could you post a copy of your PTO scenery.cfg for comparison
(3) How come I can never get the [Area.#] and the Layer= # to match? They always seem to have a diferent number and I notice that, for the most part, yours seem to match.

I have tried shifting around to match yours in the Settings of the game and then deleting all filelist.dat and have still not gotten them to match. Does it have to be done manually in the Scenery.cfg?

Fibber,

The scenery.cfg I posted in the previous thread is not mine, it is Stoney's. I downloaded it, examined it, fixed the order of some items I thought were out of place, and made sure there were no gaps in the [area.xxx] sequence. That's the big hurdle.

In general, with the exception of the first two layers, which are inverted, the "area" and layer should always be the same number. I got into the habit of editing my scenery.cfg by hand a long time ago, so I've never had the problems associated with adding scenery through the CFS2 program itself, I have done it manually.

Some of the issues of Stoney's scenery.cfg include the fact that he was using Rhumbaflappy's old water masks and coast flattens ABOVE (meaning "down" the list) Sander's scenery files. Since Sander's files are for the ETO, Rhumba's older water masks (and his new ones, for that matter) should be BELOW (meaning "up" the list) Sander's scenery files, so that his "Global_Exclde" layer blocks them out. In general, the order stould be stock files, mesh, water masks, Sander's files (for Europe) and then whatever else (airfields, Ettico's EuroTargets, etc.) that you have.

The other, as you correctly pointed out, is that the "area" and "layer" numbers were all out of whack.

Thank you YERY much RAMI, your generosity and help is really appreciated! That really worked:jump:. The scenery is now superb to fly over. I'd been away from my CFS2 for a while as I began flying in FS9Golden Wings 3. Good to be back. CFS2 still rules in my opinion.
Plus, I don't think I'll stay up till all hours to install complex scenery again. Thanks again.
