I have 1 or 2 Id like to do and the diamonds are keeping me from it.

Dave,
The diamonds aren't looking too bad so far. Is it taking a bit of distortion, to get them to come out properly?

Keep us posted on this paint!

Joseph

I think with some tricky painting you can fake it with false shadows.

That is what I was thinking as well. For that reason it is sitting in the too hard basket at the moment.

I actually want to do a 23 Squadron (RAAF) version as the photos of that squadron's aircraft seem to indicate that it was a PR squadron. They also had a unique squadron emblem on the nose which I want to replicate.

Might try to make a start on the camera housing part tonight and go from there. I will then worry about the Bump Maps over the weekend.

FSX 3D model and texture viewer

Just out of interest can I ask what programs fellow repainters are using to visualise the 3D model and repaint outside of FSX? For FS9 I use FS Repaint by Abacus but it's not always (in my experience) that good for FSX. I have found and have been using a very good (and free) FSX model viewer called 'MDLViewer.exe' but was wondering what else might be out there?

Cheers,

Taff

I use FS Repainter if I can but not all models show - including this one! Which is why doing these diamond distortions (or should it be con-tortions!) has been such a game. I looked for MDLviewer but can't find it.

Lt. Shelby Jett's 'Jett Job' is done and I'll post as soon as I can get round to it. If John and Albert will permit it I'll make the diamonds available by email if anyone wants to try their hand at some other 365th FG birds; 'Jett Job' seems to lack the smaller diamonds under the nose but I've done those so the set will be complete.

Dave,

She looks fantastic! :applause:
I admire your patience and perseverance at getting those diamonds right particularly if, I understand you correctly, you had no access to an external viewer! :salute:

It's very kind of you to offer to make the diamond pattern available. I'd be interested in a copy if you manage to arrange it.

I can if you like point you in the direction of the MDLviewer package or can email you a copy (it's freeware). Alternatively, I've just downloaded the following viewer recommended on this site in the Designer's Workshop:

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?47952-Tips-and-Resources

Look at the third post down from RobH. When you visit the site I recommend you download and use the latest development release as I couldn't figure out how to load individual variant textures in the latest stable release. I also found the latest dev rel to be noticeably faster at rendering.

Regards, Taff.

I did a couple of those diamond nose too (PI-J, QI-B and OC-L ), and I found that all the diamond patterns were different, imagine the fun I had..
In that respect it is good to see that your diamonds have yet another pattern, so we keep things original!
Excellent work!
