Razbams A-6 vs Alphasims A-6

Both have their issues.......I think the VC in the Virtavia is better but...the exterior model is good....it is missing an intake on the right wing near the forward wing root but other than that its very nice. the RAZBAM has the intake but some minor exterior shape issues and the VC is not as complete looking.

I have been thinking about getting the Virtavia....I did have the RAZBAM for FS9 and it was a nice aircraft for its time.

Flight of the Intruder is one well read dog eared book in my library at home and have been meaning to get it for my iPad for when I'm on my weekly flight.
Think I might have to investigate these planes but there is so many good things in the pipeline I never know what to buy :icon_eek:

I have both. I removed the Alphasim A-6 and have only the RAZBAM A-6 on my HD. I wish they would update the RAZBAM A-6 like read they're going to do. I spend many hours working around A-6's and acutully have 6hrs of sim time in the MCAS KNKT A-6 simulator. The RAZBAM version works the best for me.

Another user of the RAZBAM series. I did have both versions of the A-6's cousin the Prowler, again the nod going to the RAZBAM model. The added RAZBAM A-6 missions help with the decision.

Razbam hands down. NC and Razbam team did extensive research and took time and pride to fill the whole void of the family for FSX.

I'm a Razbammer too..love the Grumman Iron Works and Ronald et al do a great job on the mil aircraft they make for FSX

Only real issue I had with RAZBAM was the paintkit......all stretched and squashed.........its a deciding factor in all my buys now. I did numerous paints for it but since being away from FS9 they have disappeared.

Anybody else experience the airbrake not working (visually) in the EA-6A models? Aerodynamically they work, but you don't actually see them ...

Thoughts?

:icon_lol: Daniel,

On the real EA-6A the airbrakes were disabled !
And that proves that RAZBAM creates realistic models..........

Cheers,
Hank

Hey Hank!

I learned something new today - I had no idea the speedbrake was inop on that model. I'm aware that they migrated from the fuselage to the wingtips to ease airflow issues over the horizontal stabiliser - now I now. I also re-tested the aircraft - they are indeed not there "virtually/aerodynamically" either - so everything matches up well.

Last question on the Razbam Intruder/Prowler family - the drop tanks for all these models are untextured except for a blue fin. I've always just ignored it - but now that the conversation is underway .... Are those supposed to be textured?

To the OP's original question - I like both. There is a a certain used flavour in the textures to the Alphasim version that I like a lot. Whilst not likely as accurate, I also like that the Alphasim cockpit is a bit lighter and that (to me) makes reading the gauges a bit easier. That said, the VC has very limited functionality - and that's disappointing given it's visual quality.

There is no question that the Razbam version really targets the family in depth. Model-specific VCs, configurable (versus simple model variations) stores ... lots more depth and breadth of Intruder/Prowler variants. I really like that non TRAM and earlier A/B/C models.

On balance, I prefer the Razbam model, but have spent some quality time in both. I find it a pity that few (any?) repaints were done of the Razbam version, especially of the older Vietnam era models - the plane is a jewel to fly. For my rare forays into 80s flying, I really like the included low-vis VMAQ-2, but again, would have been awesome to see other repaints emerge ... VMAQ-3 Moondogs, for example.

If I can get the tank texture sorted, I think I'd say it's near perfect!

cheers,

DL

Thanks everyone for there imput, I guess I'll stick with razbams A-6 then. The only thing i wish they would do is update the cockpit textures.

Mike
