Tim Conrad's PT-19 Cornell ... ?

I'd like to run it in regular FSX as I need a PT-19 for a particlar mission to replicate in my CBI install. I've looked at all the other PT-19s and Tim's is the best. Now I can run this mission as a FSX sp2 only ... but I was looking to NOT do this. Most of the other aircraft I need will NOT work in sp2 since the glass all shows up black.

I don't know if it's a model thing or just the nature of the textures that gives us a phantom aircraft when using a sp2 in regular FSX. If it's just textures, has anyone done a FSX compatible repaint ... US military silver 42-43?

Ok, so you have loaded Tim's airplane into regular FSX and the canopy is black? Most likely, it's not a texture issue but a model issue which eliminates any way of correcting it without the source code.

So Bill do I take it that you are running FsX SP1 only? SP2 or Acceleration added so much that I never ran FsX with only SP1 so I don't know what issues Tim's aircraft may have in SP1, but possibly playing with the glass alphas might work.

:isadizzy: Trying to chew gum and walk at the same time!

My plan for 2013 is to fly each of the lost aircraft missions found in Chick Maars book, "The Aluminium Trail". I have a special regular FSX install for the CBI and have all the aircraft listed with the exception of a PT-19 because it's built for "acceleration" and does not show up in regular FSX ... just a "ghost" aircraft ... crew and cockpit but no visible fuselage/wings.

I also have a CBI install in my FSX Sp2 Acceleration and can fly Tim's PT-19 there, but if I try using the other aircraft from my regular FSX install, I get them with black glass.

I'd like to put them all together in a single install ... hence my desire to have the PT-19 work in regular FSX. His textures are dds or something like that and all my others are DXT-3. So my question would be:

1. Can dds be converted to DXT-3 somehow and will this let the PT-19 show up in regular FSX?

2. If not, is this a problem with the model as well as the textures?

3. Finally, is there any other kind of work-around for this "problem"?

As I mentioned, I'm not screwed if I have to work with separate installs ... but it's not what I wanted to end up with. Sure wish Tim had just done this in FS9 or regular FSX as well ... but since I can't build anything, I'm sure not going to complain about the efforts of the real creators!

Hope this clears up any questions about what I want to do and what issues I'm having.

That could be rectified with some manipulation of the alpha channel

Short answer is "Yes" and I have no idea!

If the model was run through the latest SDK then it probably won't work with "Basic FSX", trial and error is a possibility. You would need a program called DXTbmp to do any conversion work or alpha channel manipulations.

Based on what I know and what I've outlined, nope, none that I can think of.

Falcon409 ... thanks. Looks like it's a major deal ... so I'll fall back on plan "B".

reddog ... that's interesting because my install only works in acceleration.

As I wrote ... I'm going with plan "B" since I have a install for it.

Guys ... thanks!
