F-35 Freeware version released!

Hello Dino,

I have downloade and installed your wonderful models of F-35A, B and C. You have done a remarkable work. Thank you very much.

The Canada probably cannot afford a real one since the cost for 65 aircraft for 30 yaers will cost us a minimum à 40 billion $. And it is not the final price since the developpment is not yet complete. So your virtual models are particulary welcome

I wish you, and your family, a new year 2013 full of joy, freindship and good healrh.

Have a good day

Benoit

Download from Dino's site goes OK with Security Esentials.

1.
Thanks for the tip Stickshaker.
The download and install worked perfectly !

And I just finished a mission in and out ( Team SDB Scenery ) Canadian Force base Cold Lake Alberta
with Dino's F-35A !!!

Wow !!!!

This superb project is quite "light" on FPS loading.
With my current settings I have quite a stable 25 FPS readings with stable peaks over 30 FPS on
external images options !!!

2.
I want to sincerly thank Mr. Dino Cattaneo for this super cool freeware gift for the beginning of 2013 !!!

Hmm. I am getting almost slide show fps on my system that otherwise can handle most loads. Anyone having similar issues or try swapping out the hi res for lower res textures?

Fantastic work Dino and most generous of you to make freeware. Looking forward to the Tomcat.

F35 WIll not launch in Flight Deck 4

I have the F35 ready for catshot on Ronald Reagan in FD 4 and if you release the parking brake (see instructions) it will only roll down the cat and not launch.
I tried with other aircraft and they will launch as per instruction (see below), not the F35.
It will launch on the Enterprise and other carriers. On other carriers, the launch sequence is more involved then in FD4.
Press Shift + U then Shift + 1 then Shift + Space Bar = Launch.

Dino's F-35C is set up for the catapult and arresting operations introduced by the FSX Acceleration expansion pack. You can take advantage of this by using Javier's Nimitz or the default Acceleration carrier. The controls are Shift+U to lower the launch bar, Shift+I to connect to the catapult, and Shift+Spacebar to launch. Lower the tailhook before landing by using Shift+Q.

Abacus uses a non standard implementation of carrier functionality.

I guess I should of made mention that I DID use that launch sequence and it doesn't work for FS4.

FS4 ?? I assume you mean Flight Deck 4 ?? :)

But seriously:
Flight Deck 4 was a product created for FS2004 (FS9); since you do need FSX-Acceleration for this F-35 aircraft, why would you even bother to use FlightDeck4 for this addon ??
IF it even works in FSX-Acceleration (I've never tried it) at all, everything in this FD4 package (launch/arrest features, aircraft addons, carrier addons) is completely outdated compared to todays available freeware. So why use it ?

Please explain ....

Rob

Yes, the F-35 is designed to Acceleration standards - and should work fine with all the Acceleration-compatible carriers (the default one, Javier's Nimitz series, the Clemenceau and the new Enterprise...and may be others that do not come to my mind).
Compatibility with older methods of simulation carrier ops is not granted.

Aside, I'd like to publicly thank Rob for having convinced me that proper STOVL operation for the F-35B was feasibile, and for the fantastic implementation he delivered: great job!

Yes, it's Flight Deck 4. Abacus made a Flight Deck 5 and a Flight Deck 6. Abacus also provided FSX upgrades to FS4 (Flight Deck 4). It does function just fine for all of the other
Native FSX aircraft. I use it as it provides yet another carrier (Reagan) to do carrier ops from.

Notice that it says "Compatable with FS4 and FSX"

If it works with FSX ...............

@richoday

Well, "compatible with FSX" does not mean fully compliant to FSX:Acceleration SDK, specifically for what concerns the carrier operations.
I have never tested Flight Deck, so I may be wrong, but I believe it is not compliant with FSX:Acceleration.
Within the Acceleration package, Microsoft provided a standardized way to handle carrier operations and I have always used that standard in my designs.
This means that it should work fine with all FSX:A SDK compliant carrier and may not work with others.
I believe that the Flight Deck series uses its own code and this may not be compatible with the F-35.

Aside, if you have not already downloaded it, I highly suggest to download Javier Fernandez's free rendition of the Nimitz. Spectacular freeware, and fully FSX:A compatible.

Dino,

Thanks for the "info". I have/did download Javier Fernandez's free rendition of the Nimitz and your plane works fine (of course). I'm of the belief that the more carriers the merrier.
I know Milton Shupe's G7 (E1/S2F) series of planes that was recently ported over to fsx and I think eventually made native FSX will launch from the FD4 carrier. I emailed the abacus
company and made mention of the issues with your F35 and their FS4 not being compatible. Still waiting for a reply but I am not holding my breath.

F35 Now Works in FD4

I managed to figure out how to originate a launch aboard USS Nimitz ala you tube. Slewed from off coast North Island in default trike to where I wanted carrier to be then called up Nimitz
ala ai config then raised plane via slew on flight deck then saved flight. I restart the saved flight and substituted the F35 and now I can launch off Nimitz by just loading that saved flight.
The FD4 carrier (Reagan) was nearby so I did a trap then just for grins thought I'd try a launch and by golly, it worked this time. Did another trap/launch evolution and that was successful
as well. What I liked about FS4 was that it created scenery files that you could select and then after you picked one you were on the Reagan. Have to load saved flights if I want
same results.

You're very welcome ...:)
I must admit it was a great pleasure for me to design/contribute the STOVL for such a terrific F35 package !!

Cheers, Rob

RFN TacanILS

Many thanks to all involved for this best ever new years present.

I've been experimenting a bit with the new HUD. I can't program but I've managed to add RFN TacanILS needles relatively easily (not much more than copying and pasting). It's not perfect and I haven't done the steering arrow yet, but attached is picture of it working side by side with the RFN gauge.
There are quite a few carriers in the works or already released, so this could be very useful.
Hopefully it will be done properly by someone competent.View attachment 78443

Reaaly pretty jet, fantastic modeling. Very generous of you Dino; many thanks. My rig seems to be having some trouble reading the V/STOL gauges, probably a fsx config file entry needs a manual adjust. The next FSX install when this computer needs replacing will not be in the /programe files(X86) folder, source of much annoyance on this rig. :salute:
