GMax Kako

Yup. I just followed what Allen said. I'll have the new CAT CFGs for both ships real soon.

Ummmm... What Camo? I didn't add any. all i did was export the gmax model to a fs9 MDL. then used mk-MDLC and converted it to CFS2. Popped it in game and voila. There you have it.

As far as I know the XML isn't needed for CFS2. maybe later if you want to develope it for FS2004 or FSX.

the plane is the F1M2 Pete we modified for the Nissin. though i wish we could make a BGL of it and have it on the non cat models. oh well.

Problem with Aoba... But CFG and DP Done.

Well the Aoba didn't export very well. not sure why.

I was able to finish the CFG file and you will now be able to launch of her. So I'm done completely with my part.

If we can get all these ladies finished and painted they will be ready to go.

till later.
John

I've done something wrong here

Hi John and Allen
Thanks for all your help.
I have installed the Gmax FS2004 gamepack, got MDLC Version beta117 and converted the Kako, Kako_Cat, and the Aoba to CFS2 status, added 'empty' sound, panel and texture folders and put them in mission builder, set up a couple of missions and wallah!!
The ships sail backwards and are missing 'bits'. (see attachment)

I've done something wrong here.:isadizzy:View attachment 86922
When making the models I did make one half of the hull, mirrored it and attached the mirrored section to the other half.
When I noticed that the models were facing backwards, I mirrored them to face the correct way.
Any ideas.
Cheers

You must have used the Mirror button at the top... Not good at all! The ship should be pointing forward when look at it over head in gMax.

Thank you Keith, that reminds me of the Universal Warning.

Use the Mirror modifier instead (or there'll be weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth...).

If you use the Mirror button you'll get the same result in Gmax (or 3ds Max as here), but when the model is exported to the sim you'll see something like this:-

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Back to the drawing board

Hi Allen
That is some very handy info.
Bloodhawk must have spotted my mistakes and fixed them himself as he seems to have jpegs showing the whole ship
I didn't use the button but used the mirror function nevertheless.
I will have a go at this tomorrow, (Carlton are Playing St Kilda on the TV tonight and I will be watching that game. You will have to Google that) but I probably have lost the files before they were mirrored.
Cheers
Stuart
PS Thanks for the Heads Up withe the Gmax 2004. I was searching for that info for a while.

The Kako didn't need much outside of the hight adjustment. its the Aoba that had things missing. those pics are of the Kako. I'll complie everything together and send it out i've modified the CFGs so check your email.

Till later,
John

Aoba problem

Hi John
I have the V2 of the goodies.:jump:
Now that I cane export models to the game I can see a few of my errors.
Kako is OK, but the other three have the hull 'disappearing'. (and go backwards)
As Allen pointed it was me mirroring them incorrectly when I found that hey were facing the wrong way in GMax. (you learn by your mistakes)
When I emailed you all four, I seems that I did not actually mirror the Kako and of course, it is the one that is OK. (fortunately)
I found the same problem on a model of the Kaga 1928 style, that I will practice texturing on. I have fixed the Kaga by redoing the hull.
This may be the source of the problem.
Cheers
Stuart

It happens. I don't know if there is reset that will fix the mirror prob. Never found a reset in any threads I've seen.

GMAx Render Problem

Hi All
I have redone the Aoba and fixed the render problems except for one.
The Torpedo Shield does not render properly. (As seen in the jpeg)
This is a completely new object, no mirroring.
The tubes and base are also new.
even if they are not present, the Torpedo Shield does not render.
Any idea's would be appreciated.
Cheers
Stuart

S,
Is any part of the torp tube shields textured? If the shields are texture and you do not have the texs available then this can cause a prob. If nothing is textured then try the opposite ie assign a texture for just the shields, this may force it to show. Also, try flipping the polys of the shields and see, and then back, and again see.

Also re your mirror problem. Yes it's a known weird-ness and doesn't 'compute', does it!

Looking good so far, something different for the high sea...:applause:

Cheers

Flippin' Hell

Hi Shessi
Thanks for the tips.
:jump:
There are no textures, I don't really know how to texture, so I left that one alone.
Flipping them once makes the shields show in the game, however they are 'reversed/disappear' in GMax.
Flipping them back again makes them disappear in the game again.
I could leave them 'flipped' but I wonder if that would create a headache for a someone who was painting them?
Not that it would be noticable at 500', but you would notice it if you are on the catapult, particulary in Kako.
Thanks Again
Stuart

what about doing a double wall? you know what i mean?

Hi John
I am not exactly sure what a double wall is but I took a punt.
I cloned the shield and flipped it.
This worked.
There are now two shields for each mount (torpedoshield01 and 03 for the starboard mount) and (torpedoshield02 and 04 for the port mount).
I don't know whether this will be a problem for painters.
Cheers
Stuart
PS I will email the four models, the Aoba and AobaCat may need some changes to the DP or CFG file. I had to completely reconstruct the 3rd funnel and the AAGuns on the flightdeck. The torpedo mounts have been changed on all models.
PSS
Hope that you have recovered from the long shifts:sleep:

No rest for the weary...

Well I have tonite off then back at it saturday nite. Yee Haw...

Stuart,
check your email.

Send me the GMax files. otherwise i have to put them into ACM which is a pain for ships. well not realy but its easier just to look in gmax.

Both Aoba versions are all set. I'll double check the Kako.

After a quick once over, the Kako is all set as is.

I'll send you the new files for the Aoba.

Get these Ladies off to paint.

Hi John
Thanks again for all of your work on this project.:salute:
It has been a good learning curve.
UncleTgt expressed some interest in painting, when the models were ready and I will email him the products.
Cheers
Stuart
PS It would be my pleasure to have a go at any WWI ship you are interested in, just name one for me to get started on. (no texturing though)
I am currently working on a model of the IJN Kaga, 1930 style, purely with the aim of learning how texturing works.
PSS I am also working on a simple model of a British V and W destroyer that could be used in WWI (as they were) or WWII, with a couple of small changes.
Cheers
Stuart
