Two guns

Does anyone know ? Did this Nieuport carry more than two guns, or are they only located to the left?
For the Tripehound fans, here's the rare twin gun version.
Also found a close look at the Camel's guns.

All this was found at http://www.earlyaviator.com

Hello,
or get a Fokker E.IV ... three Spandaus ...
Greetings,

Yes, I've seen this picture before. I only ask myself, how a fragile little plane like this should carry the ammo for three guns, when none of the bigger ones could?

Oldham the answer to the last question is probably "badly"

The dual gun Tripe is in OFF P3. It is only in 2 RNAS squads for a short time, but fun :)

Facts are little sparse about the E IV, as only 49 were ever built
It was a stretched fusilage with 170 HP Double Row

I'm told the 3 guns, were because of frequent gun jams, on the theory that 1 will always available

How Many Rounds ????

Hello Cameljockey,

" ... Yeah, and if you fire all three at once the thing flies backwards! ..."

Otto von Wels: "Harhar voen't yoo ackree zis izza fine masheen, ziss fline beckwutz izz owa nyoo trikk, ellong wizze firing off de gunn ze 170 HP Dubble Roe runns beckwutz :caked:... "
von Wels grumbles on, drawing his pistol
:Banane36:
"Now vottzett ? Zey are cumming to take mee avay haha shtopp i say shtop !!!! ... "

Wels is being drawn awy by a bunch of men in white clothes ..

Greetings,
Catfish

I sometimes see people asking "why would you only have one gun on an airplane?". The answer usually is "weight". These machine guns and their ammunition were very heavy and moved the aircraft's center of gravity as well as resulted in somewhat reduced performance in many aircraft.

Sure you could try, 3, 4, 5 or more guns on a plane, but you compromise flying characteristics at some point. The guns don't do much good if the enemy can fly rings around you and is always behind you, or the plane can't even leave the ground or be flown with stability.

Hi, Pol
I'm sure, the "Allies" amongst us will be really keen on the Tripehound with two guns. When I look at the above pic, I wonder, that she was stable enough for dogfighting - doesn't she look pretty fragile?
Hi, Dutch
Earlier WW1 sims I played, were "Wings of Glory", "Dawn Patrol" and "Flying Corps"; the last two were pretty good for the time. But they didn't run on my later systems any more.

"One of our sudden outbreaks of violence, Herr Otto von Wels? Are we thinking about how to win the great war, again?" To the nurse: "Give this patient a double dose of Valium, and make sure, that he sleeps. Good night, Herr Otto. Perhaps, tomorrow, you'll have achieved total air supremacy, hm? But for now, we'll have a nice lay down, alright? Doctor's orders!"
Otto von Wels: "Orders?! I got orders at last!" Stands straight and salutes. "For ze Kaizer, and ze Fazzerland!" Nurse: "My god..." Otto: "Yes, and for god! Sorry, I forgot!"

Hi, Sir Mike; I wish I could try the dogfighting in P3 already, may be closer to reality there. In P2, I'd always pick a German plane with the two guns. I tried Allied planes, but couldn't achieve as many victories there, cause ammo was always out after one, maybe two victories.
But in P3, things may look different, and I can't get them so easily any more, cause they really fly rings around me? We'll see...

As a second/third question, does anyone know why the guns were offset on the N28 and how did that affect the balance of the aircraft if at all?

Only a guess . .but it makes sense, that perhaps the struts between the fusilage and the upper wing, were in the wrong place for a more conventional gun mounting :ernae:

Well it's not as agile, or as fast, or as good at climbing, a little nose heavy, but apart from that it HAS TWO GUNS MWHAHAAAA.
More like a Albatros eh lol..

Could it be to help off set the torque from the rotary engine?
