Help for windows 7 - fs9 new installation

It IS a 32-bit app. but it should run regardless of where you install it.
Have you checked the "Run as Administrator" in FS9/Properties/Compatibility ?
Can't think of anything else to cause that to happen. I have been on 64 bit system for several years and never seen this.

Hi,
This is a Windows 8 computer, even more awkward than a 7
,
but the path I have here is like this:
C/Microsoft Games/Flight Simulator 9
and it seems to work OK !
It is outside the Program Files, just straight onto the C drive.

Lemonadedrinker's path is really the safest way to get FS9 installed in Windows 7. I use: C:\FS Games\Flight Simulator 9.
Just be sure it does not go into either the PROGRAMS FOLDER or the X86 FOLDER and it should work for you.

I INSTALLED FS9 IN "C:\Flight Simulator 9" (COMPLETELY NEW INSTALLATION), I ALSO CHANGED THE PROPERTIES OF FS9.EXE (AS SUGGESTED BY MAJ KONG), BUT IT DOESN'T WORK.......

As stated above, FS9 is a 32bit application, and should run (the word is SHOULD) from the path it chooses at the initial install. This is not always the case tho. Win7 can be a bit picky about things. Had you previously un-installed FS9 and then tried to re-install it on this machine? What I would do is this...
Un-install FS9 completely, then use a registry clean-up tool such as the free version of "CCleaner" and run it to make sure it takes all of the incomplete entries for FS9 out of the registry. After that, try re-installing FS9 using the path that lemonadedrinker spoke of, or the one I use. It should work just fine.
You may get the pop-up that says that the program didn't install properly, but I would try running the new install of FS9 FIRST, just to see if it works, before un-installing and re-installing it using the "Compatibility Mode". Also, depending on your anti-virus program, you may want to temporarily shut it OFF just long enough to complete the new install, then re-activate it when you're done.

What about User Access Control (UAC) settings?
I'm inclined to suggest that you disable this function before re-installing - and keep it so.

Are you by any chance running with the Updated FS9 ?
When you reinstall with the discs you are running the original version, and that must be started and run before exiting and running the Update.

Some great tips here:
Uninstall FS9, and clean the registry (Flight1 offers a free registry cleanup tool)
Delete any remaining FS9 directories.
Turn off UAC and any anti virus program.
Install FS9 in a sub-directory, like X:\games\Flightsimulator 9.
If possible, Install FS9 on a separate drive, unless you have an SSD of at least 240GB.
Install FS-9 "as administrator".
After installation completed, set fs9.exe to start "as administrator.
You can turn your Ant Virus program back on.
I left UAC turned off, as it causes more problems then that it is useful.
That should do the trick.
But remember: A this moment it is of the utmost importance to fully uninstall FS9 and clear ANY traces of it.

You can give this a try also, I got this off the Flight Center Forum, I can't remember who posted it.
Navigate to the FS9 directory.
Right click and select properties
Go to the Security tab
Look under the Group or User names field. I bet your user name that you use as your log on name is not on the list.
Click Edit
On the next pop up widow click Add
In the box marked "Enter the object names to select" type in your user name.
Click check names. It should append your computer name before your user name. This means it found the user.
ClickOK
Select your user name you just added and in the lower box click full control allow.
Click Apply (this might take awhile while it applies the permissions to all the sub folders)
Click OK
You should now be on the list with full control permissions to that folder and all sub folders.
Follow this procedure for any program that you will be running on your system that does not seem to be working correctly.

Hi Friends,
I think the problem is due to the FS9.exe I used on my old PC, it was a "no-disk" exe, I changed the file with the original one and now the program seems to work, but now it "wants" again the "Disk 4".
Unfortunately I lost my Disk 4 in a transport, so I have ONLY the 3 original disks.......

This is what I have always done..... I have a backup/copy of FS9 on a portable drive & I install on any PC as follows..
Turn off UAC
Install FS9/FSX & GW3 into default directory!!!
I ALWAYS leave UAC turned off, as it causes more problems then that it is useful.
I then use the Flight1 free registry tool to tell the registry where the FS9.exe or FSX.exe is.
I dunno why people install in directories that are not default as I have had no problems once my UAC had been turned off.
First thing I do with a PC is to turn off UAC & run everything as administrator - never a problem of issues at all.
I have a i5 W7 64bit 4GB laptop & I have NEVER had any issues installing as I do.
I have also installed my 'Master' FS9 on my portable drive on many other Windows XP & W7 PC's as well.
Oh, BTW, as far as FS9.1 'no cd' exe..... that is if you have patched FS9 with the update....
