Aeroplane Heaven new Grumman F3F-2!

teiscoDelRay's VF-5 no camera or bomb racks cont'd

Here is what the under the bottom wing looks like now with the dark smudges removed - repainted.

Just to show what one has to contend with when converting the older F3F paints to a clean version.

All you need to do is remove the shadows from the ambient layer of the wing texture in the paintkit and save it as the B version.:engel016:

Not sure I follow... The colors in the paint kit look nothing like the repaint I was modifying ^.

At any rate, I went about it the only way I knew how. :untroubled:

Edit: This is all I see in your paint kit...colorless objects that resemble aircraft bits.

Would you like to expound a little further on what you are suggesting please?

The paintkit is layered. You are not turning off or on the requisite layers. The shadowing is on a separate layer, called AMBIENT OCCLUSION, the wireframes show you where everything is. There are many tips on using paintkits available, I suggest you read them before going much further, otherwise you will get very frustrated. I can't use this forum to show you how to use a paintkit. You most certainly need to know your way around Photoshop and layers.:engel016:

I do know a little and have dabbled some with Photoshop and I am versed a little with layers as well. A process of flattening files needs to take
place for the layers to take effect. I didn't want to repaint what was already painted but rather modify what needed to be fixed.

First of all let me explain that I use the finished files that the original author used for his paint.
I came along and pulled up the appropriate files with Photoshop and made layers over the
areas affected. I don't see how using a colorless paint kit would of done the trick.

I used the resources I had and made the best of them. BTW, I am proud of what I did as I do know how to manipulate Photoshop
maybe not as an expert, but enough to make minor changes. The author of this repaint had no intentions of changing it and advised
me to do it myself thus, my limited talents were displayed as such.

Thank you kindly for your expert suggestions.

Shine On. :adoration:

Nobody is suggesting that your efforts are not good or worthy. Far from it, you are doing what many would not. What I would say though is that if you did use the paintkit to produce your new skins, you would find it a lot easier than going over flattened files. When I started repainting existing models, that was the way it was indeed done and you needed some skill to do it properly. Now we have paintkits which are designed to take the headaches away, not create them.

In your recent paint you show a livery with the yellow tops and grey undersides to the wings and a red and white edged striping on the top surface. If you have the patch with the no-bomb option, you will find the "B" suffix tile already in the folders. If you use this as a base to paint over if that is the way you are going to do it, the shadows have already gone and the detail remains. From what I can see, you just need the red stripes with the white edges on the top wing and you would be good to go.:engel016:

That is exactly what I did, but I guess I was not clear on how I went about making the changes. I used the "B" file from the authors repaint and created colored layers that matched the surrounding
areas as appropriate so as to "Blend in" and eliminated the bomb racks (Smudges) or Camera (smudges). Don't know how YoYo did it, but I tried for the same results.

I have yet to create a repaint from scratch using anyone's paint kit. I just "recolored/modified" what already existed and tried to make things happen....:)

***SNIP**** A process of flattening files needs to take

That statement is wrong

Simply do a "save as" with only the layers you want to show up active and you get the results you designed.

You preserve the .psd integrity and speed up the work flow process.

I meant to say that in the first place. Thanks for watching. I'll be 70 this July and already have halfheimers- a little addled minded I guess. :adoration:

Extra Red VF-5 F3-F

After all the back and forth here on layers and what I should of done ya-da-ya-da ya-da in PSD...I've received a complement for what I've done so far and a request to increase the shade of red on the cowl and tail, so here it is.

One final (for now) upgrade going up today containing a few little adjustments to the VC and props for those who would like more defined blurs.:engel016:

Again? ;)

Maybe good idea to do upgrade for TacPack (payware with small amount or not...)? Compatibility with VOR of carrier (direction only), guns and bombs like P-38L of MV :).

Is a clean version of the Gulfhawk coming? That's the only texture I want. It's really stunning :jump:

Another fix for the VF-5

Made a small change to the cowl (Added black stripe) from TeiscoDelRay (Paul). I have his Okay to give out copies but not to upload. So if anyone wants a copy
send me a PM.

I have modified the Bomb/Clean versions.

Added tail panels and H-stab panels (tight fit) and some rivets in the wheel well (not finished) .
