Flight Réplicas Douglas Dc-4 and B-24 free Released

Just downloaded V18 from .to and it doesn't show in my aircraft selection menu... I'll try the direct link above.

Edit: No joy. Still not showing in the aircraft selection menu with the dropbox file
Strange. It works for me - can anyone else confirm whether it’s working ok? Which sim version and whether you downloaded from the Google drive link above or flightsim.to.

Also @Brian_Gladden did you delete the older version or simply overwrite the files?

It shows up for me. Great sounds! I have trouble starting the engines manually. Sometimes 1,2,3 catch but mostly not. I use the correct mixture, switches and prime first. When energising the starter I hear it spin up to speed. After that; mesh and I can hear the startup sound but only sometimes the prop starts spinning. Number 4 never starts spinning. Counting nine blades is impossible. But ctrl-e works fine.

OK thanks for confirming it shows up ok. I'll take another look at the startup code - BTW were you testing in the B24D or J? And in which version of MSFS?

For V19 I'm going to refactor a big chunk of the code to make use of templates, so I don't have to keep writing out duplicate code for the D and J variants; it's perfectly possible a bug crept in, although I did test manual start of both variants and it worked for me.

Sim is 2020 and I deleted the previous version first. It used to be in my select aircraft menu right next to the Catalina/Canso... I just deleted everything B-24 related and redownloaded the -24. Lets see what happens this time...

After the vibrations XML codes, as I read, the CANSO and the way its XML files are written and organized serves as an example for other developers

That is MS2020 and I tried starting with the J variant. Maybe one of the parameters (priming, spinning up is too tight?). I did not try the start (spin) the engines without ignition, to simulate the nine blades.

In 2020 the tooltips seem to work better than 2024, and should show you the prime status and inertia starter speed (must be 12,000-16,000 RPM). I could also add this to the tablet but it's positioned such that it's hard to see while interacting with the starter and prime switches; I've no idea how to make it a movable tablet but it must be possible.

Incidentally, I want to get the props animating better during startup, both for successful and failed starts, and also on shutdown. It's on the to-do list.

Work has started on V19: the core functionality of auto-lean / auto-rich / emergency-full mixture control is implemented; probably needs some fine tuning after flight tests but that can come later.

Maybe now is a good time to mention some excellent news: I got kind permission from the author of the excellent Duckworks DC-3 mod, to adapt and reuse elements of Duckworks code in this freeware "B24 Repack" project. The fuel mixture will be the first of several new features I can port from DC-3 to B-24. This isn't a simple copy-paste but definitely opens up some good possibilites for more system depth in the B24.

Normally I don't use the tooltips, while flying real world I don't have them either. But they could be a good help indeed!. Excellent news that you can use the Duckworks code. I think that with their mod the DC3 has the best simulated rotary engines next to the Flying Irons aircraft.
Another thing, during take-off I keep a close look at the engine temperatures in relation to the cowl flap setting. I do not see any rise of cilinderhead temperatures at this time. Was this not simulated in the FR code?

When the B24 was released for MSFS2020 I tried it and deleted it again as being nice by looks but lacking proper simulation. And look where it stand now! You doing an excellent job and it must take a humongous amount of time.

Thanks,

Paul

With the tooltips on I can now start all engines. It also indicates where extactly to click/hold the switches. And I did not activate the starter motor long enough. With the ignition off the engines will not turn. Obviously mixture and ignition should not be linked to the slow start animation. I suppose the DC3 code will sort this.

Still not showing in the select aircraft menu. I deleted everything B-24 related (Including repaints) and reinstalled the .TO download. And nothing shows. Guess I'll wait for the next version...

Sorry but I've got nothing tangible to fix that'll help your problem - so I don't expect anything will change for you in V19. It's confirmed as working in both 2020 and 2024 for others, maybe there's some conflict with another add-on in your system? I've run this at the same time as a whole plethora of other add-ons, but of course it could be some rogue combination.

If we are able to pinpoint the cause then of course I'll get this fixed if it's a problem in the B24 code.

Hi Brian, sometimes there's the "folder in the folder syndrome" when unzipping aircraft downloaded. Check the folder of the aircraft in your community folder. If you don't see the "manifest.json" file after opening the folder, but rather another folder, then that is what's happening. You just need to move that folder to the community folder and delete the firstnamed folder.

Not sure what happened but I guess the third IS the charm. Installed again and pow. There's my Liberators. Love the new flight model. She doesn't porpoise like Flipper :giggle:

Still a visual Anomaly in the exterior view (Small white vertical line at the COG visible in all directions)
