• There seems to be an up tick in Political commentary in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site we know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religiours commentary out of the fourms.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politicion will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment amoung members. It is a poison to the community. We apprciate compliance with the rules.

The Yorkshire based company of Blackburn, between the wars, always tried to plan and develop naval warplanes, sometimes with unbelievable ugly results, but not so in this case. It was realized that a torpedo carrying aircraft was a very potent war machine and so Blackburn began to develop a design by Major F.A.Bumpus, firstly entitled the Ripon, sadly underpowered, and then upgraded to the then called Baffin, both of which went into production, the Ripons which were already produced being upgraded to Baffin standards.

In spite of the small production numbers, the Baffin spread to very wide horizons, for example Finland and New Zealand Navy (RNZN).

The eventual torpedo aircraft adopted by the Fleet Air Arm, some years later.the Fairy Swordfish, famous in it's own right, was only very marginally better than the Baffin.

The FAA skin represents a No.820 Sqn, FAA aircraft which flew from HMS Courageous untill replaced by Swordfish in 1939. The New Zealand skin is from a training squadron of the RNZN 1940-41.

I've also included another sound choice, so if you haven't already you can have this one. By Shessi.
