East Wretham was a base that housed the ‘Greennoses’ of 359th Fighter Group from october1943 to november 1945. Originally they flew with P-47 Thunderbolts on ground attack missions, but were re-equipped with P-51 Mustangs in march 1944. These Mustangs were used on bomber escort missions. The 359th flew 346 missions from East Wretham.
