Good evening, guys; Started putting around in it today. Do you guys use the trim on the panel, or trim on stick buttons? Is it the same? I have only been taking off and landing. It might be a little harder landing, not much, but once you land, you do not need the brakes. The stocker would roll forever, if you touched down over 85. The first couple of landings, I swear, I could hear the tires pop. Also, what`s with the 25% item in middle of guage. Does it change as you burn fuel? It has stayed at 25%, but I am only flying for about 5 min. Lots more to think about and you have to treat her just right! I`ll never fly a stocker, again!

I emailed it to him Miami...

The trim on the panel should corelate to the stick/keyboard settings. One thing though: The green switch on the panel returns the elevator/pitch trim to neutral. If you like the 1% F4F you should try the 1% Brewster Buffalo. :) ;)

One thing you need to do with the 1% F4F.You need to change the tail wheel swing from 12 to about 65* swing,it gives you better controll over the AC.Another thing to remember is to not taxy fast with the F4F. It will brake you face. Here are someother things I found out about the real F4F-3s and 4s.The flap settings on the real F4F-3s F4F-4s and the F6Fs only had two posistions, full up or full down not the way the stock or 1% flaps are set.The F4F flaps were spring loaded so that you can`t put them down above a certain speed. When lowering the flaps on the real F4Fs the flaps were assisted by the carb through a vac. hose which made the engine cough. Here is something else that the F4Fs all had, a hand operated gear handle. it was on the right side of the pilot so just after takeoff he would switch hands fly the plane with his left hand and turn a handle 29 times to raise the gear.

And a correctly-simulated PITA in IL2/Pacific Fighters - no automated gear retraction there at all for the Wildcat, unlike with CFS2. You have to hit the manual crank keystroke at least 15 times for full retraction. You can also do it by "mousing" the handle in the VC cockpit, but its just as difficult and time consuming.

Imagine scrambling your F4F cold from the deck to an incoming Jap strike 15 miles and closing fast and having to crank the gear, close the canopy, raise flaps, all while hurriedly turning and climbing into the incoming bandits as soon as the wheels leave the deck to cut time to intercept.

You get a good feel for what the real Cat drivers had to deal with. And it really drives home the importance of having CAP already airborne and on point when the trouble shows up.

As for F4F main gear cycle times...

Extension: ~= 4 seconds, ...the gear lock was released in a multi-G break turn, ...and spooled out with G force.

Retraction: ~= 25 seconds, ...arm strength and fatigue...

Good morning guys. Geeze, now, I have to find a way to install a crank arm on my desk! I`m starting to think a real F4F would be easier to fly than this one! In a couple of hours I will do the adjustments to my files. Yes indeed, those guys were something else. Just overcoming the fear of getting off the deck would do me in. Thanks for the help and info guys

"Good morning guys. Geeze, now, I have to find a way to install a crank arm on my desk!"

It's Shift G by default CFS2 keyboard setting.

Tobob, You can get one at Netwings when they get going again. I was very luckly that a friend took pity on me and sent it to me. I am sorry to say, I do not have a clue about how to send it to you. One of many, many, things I have not learned yet, sorry dude.

Good Morning: I am pretty new at this, but I think Netwings was the only place that had them. AV history is where they came from, they no longer have them there. They are working on getting Netwings going again. I am sure there are still enough guys using CFS2 that these planes will not be lost. What are you flying now?
