10 Cars That Sank Detroit

In my past, it was mostly European cars, but I did own some American cars.

Sterling kit car, VW powered
Austin Healey Sprite (not the bugeye)
Fiat Mirafiori (two of them) my copper one ran like Ed's Honda
Fiat X-1/9
Cadillac Coupe de Ville 74
VW Bus, not the early body style, owned two, one was a Westfalia camper with a Buick V-6. :)
Another Cadillac, 2 door, I think a 76
Dodge Daytona, full ground effects package, I think 1984 circa
Chrysler Laser, 4 speed turbo (fast!!!)
Dodge Daytona, base model, great car for a runabout, looked horrible
Range Rover 1988, owned for 12 years, loved it, rebuilt the upper end once.
Infiniti (and beyond...!) Q45, 13 years old, in great condition, also like Eds Honda.

Best cars;
Fiat Mirifiori (for back then)
Chrysler Laser
Range Rover (drove it like a fast attack tank! could jump curbs, climb mountains, loved IT!!)
Q45

The VW vans were a blast to drive... I cant believe VW isnt making something fun like that anymore.. Reminded me of a U-Boot going through a tall wave when I would encounter a parking lot gradiant curb (going up into a parking lot, up a slight hill). You sat in front of the front axle (or over it) and it kinda through you up put of the seat, lolol..

Bill, talking about driving that Range Rover got me to thinking about a Jeep CJ-5 that was the first brand new vehicle I ever bought. I drove it everywhere and anywhere. It was a '80 model and had a Pontiac 151ci 4 cylinder under the hood. The one thing about it I don't miss is the soft top.

I learned to drive stick shift in a VW Combi van, '71 model.:wavey:

They were awesome...

My 4th gear kept popping out. I found if I put a bungie cord on the shift colum down to my seat, it stayed in gear.

:d

I later installed some prototype Land Rover Discovery 'prototype' seats in my 'U-Boot'. Had a Rangie stereo in it.

I stripped the interior and put in some scrap blue and white shag carpet, and put in some base furniture. We used to have a blast driving around on Friday nights in that thing.

Crazy days..

Ain't that the truth! My Mom's third husband had one of those big Country Squire wagons. I drove it when I came home from the Philippines in 1973. The thing was a real "urban assault vehicle". :d

complete with the fake-me-out wood "applique", blue vinyl upholstry, and seats in the cargo area that folded down underneath the bed :d
