195...the Hot Rod Cessna

OBIO

Retired SOH Admin
Every time I look at the Cessna 195...I can't help but feel that I am looking at a hot rod aircraft...a flying version of a 49 Mercury with a chipped top, suicide doors and a channeled frame. So, since the 195 gets my hot rod blood boiling, I could not help but throw some hot rod inspired paint onto the 195 Shakey Jake. Still need to work some magic on the wings, polish/chrome the airelons, rudder and elevators for that late 50s style bling and redo the interior to match the exterior...but already this is one slick looking ride.

And Lawdog's sound pack for the Bristol Mercury radial sure gives this flying hot rod the sound she needs as she is cruising the skies of Bakersfield California...the place that many feel was the birthplace of the American hot rod culture.

My next paint for this plane will be an attempt at a late 50s style rat rod...black oxide primer with gloss flames or stripes. May even throw the white walls onto it for good measure.

If the 195 is the hot rod, then my 337H Skymaster must be the Cessna "muscle car" ;)

Nice paints! :icon29:

Wait until you see it with the white walls mounted on it....that little detail really makes this paint job even more awesome.

I tried the airelons and elevators in polished aluminum...and it didn't look right...so they are back to the red-orange base color.

The Cruiser is DONE! One texture pack that will work on all four variants of the C195. Stock Wheels, Wheel Pants, Tundra Wheels and Float (LC126 in military jargon).

Next will be the Rat and the Suede jobs.

Second Hot Rod paint job is nearing the halfway mark....need to make some final adjustments to the external paint work then tackle the interior. The alpha channels on the external is giving me a slight case of the fits...nothing major, just taking a lot of trial and error to achieve the look I am after.

Yes, there will be a black and chrome variant....patterned off the 57 Chevy Bel Air 2-Door. And a White and Turquoise (or Choral...not sure yet) one patterned after the 53 Crown Victoria. Maybe one patterned after the Woodie wagon. A Custard and Black beauty with lots of chrome....patterned after what I feel is the most beautiful car ever built...the 58 Buick Roadmaster.

I was thinking about doing up a Rat Rod version...with lots of rust and dents and patches and mix matched parts and really funky old 50s style tattoo looking graphics....but making a plane look like a rust bucket is FREAKING HARD!

Here's a couple shots of the current victim of my madness....a nice So-Cal inspired suede job with Apple Green scallops...

Very nice C195 Redux! You've added a new dimension to the C195. I always viewed it more as a Packard. But this one works for me too!

I did a paint for Milton's Beech 18 that had bits and pieces from other D18s. It was a hoot to make and it's my favorite paint for it.

And while they aren't exactly "hotrod", don't forget Leon Louis' paints for "Jake" as well. They might be some inspiration.

Oh.. as I discovered, Leon 'goofed' in the upload... at least on "-DXV" the wing registrations got mirrored and thus, reversed, but it's curable.

BTW, turquoise looks good on the 195.
(Yep, it's snowing here today... time to get the floats changed and the winter kits put on...)
