2nd Generation jets .....

I agree with you Pete, it's on the list, just need to get a few more reference pictures together.

The desert brown scheme appears to be a myth that has circulated around the scale modelling world; I have yet to see any photographic evidence to prove it. And the scheme proposed on that Propagteam sheet is just too funny for words!! I do want to try to tackle that Suez Scheme at some point, providing the texture mapping is up to it.

That last link could be very useful, not seen that one before, thank you. The reason I am holding off on doing the later RAFO scheme is threefold; firstly, there is a lot of debate about the colours involved, I think I'm going to have to end up with a best guess; they tended not to keep them very clean in service (they were worked very hard, and time for spit & polish was at a premium), so I'm going to have to learn the art of weathering; and finally, the schemes tend to be an allover camo, and Dave's mapping is a little tricky for doing this (that is not a criticism of DG, more a reflection on my lack of skill) - I have an RAF model I am doing in a wraparound, I will then be able to use that as the basis.

I need to redo a couple of things on the 2 Squadron repaints that I am not happy with and I've still not got the alphas right, but I hope to be able to get the first ones up into the Library late today or tomorrow.

the desert brown is not so much a Myth as you'd think....

granted she's on static but she did fly in, it'd be safe to assume that Omani and Kuwaiti air force used desert camouflage as when you look at the types operated alongside Hunter they have the camouflage....

Matt, very aware of that scheme; it's basically BS equivalents of the old dark earth/mid stone/azure blue scheme, BAe had one of their demonstrator Hawks flying in that scheme, and Harrier G-VTOL wore it as well. A lot of the Arab air forces used the scheme; the Saudis, Kuwaitis & Qataris among others. And because they did, the assumption within the scale model world was that the Omanis had as well, and it became a self perpetuating myth - but if anybody can give me photographic proof I will happily admit my error. The Omani's initial Hunters were transferred from Jordan, who used the standard RAF scheme; later deliveries were from RAF surplus stocks.

RAFO Hunter, Not desert but 2 tone grey wraparound, note the Aim-9 under the wing :icon_lol:

That scheme has to be done, it looks so business like; many a year back I did that on the Airfix Hunter, including the Sidewinders - have to live without them this time I'm afraid.

But you can see the problem, what greys to use? I've searched for a definitve reference (including the scale model forums) & nobody appears to have an answer; and each photo is different. It's a bit like the arguments that erupted when 74 Squadron got their ex-USN F-4J's; in that instance they had used near equivalents to the standard RAF 3 greys scheme, but they were just that, near equivalents - and in some photos they looked blue, in some grey ......

The darker of the two greys on the Hunter looks to be failry standard RAF dark sea grey; the other one I just can't pin down.

Andy i'll do some experimentation to see what looks right on the colour front for that RAFO Hunter :salute: after i get some more work done on Miltons Tracker/Tracer/Trader and the Tempest II :salute:

Come on Guys. Every time I shut down the Shockwave lab someone brings up yet another plane I have in the hanger with default lights. Oh well, back to business while I stoke up my pipe and brew some more tea.

This is gonna be a long afternoon since there are eleven different airfiles involved. Hopefully most have the same dimensions.:cowboy:

Edit: Appears my concerns were for naught. Except for an ocassional beacon or white nav bulb, all eleven are the same.

Here's the first stab at the T7. Unusual Landing light placement. I can only assume there will be several oddities as I progress.

Yes, the F3 was the only Hunter (apart from some specials) fitted with the afterburning Avon, with which it set a world speed record. She is preserved up at Cosford, a very pretty looking aircraft.
