A-36/P-51A Mustang by Allen

Thank you Allen! I am looking forward to setting these up in my installs.

How do you go about making them? What modeling and paint tools do you use?

A36/p51a

Beautiful, thanks heaps Allen, its great having the (nearly) full development of such a great aircraft. Don't know if you've seen that a Mosquito and a P51d Mustang flown by the RNZAF were located some time ago an a shed in Nelson NZ . While the Mossie was brought up to engine running status and is in the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre in Blenheim NZ, the Mustang has been brought back to flying condition and has had recent flights out of Ohakea RNZAF base. https://youtu.be/Uhr__ZBYUt4 is worth a look as to history

Rohan:
I wanted to make and upload with Lieutenant Michael T. Russo's "PAT" A-36 but I couldn't find any real pic of the aircraft and I see conflicting paint profiles of the aircraft when it comes to roundels and the large tail ID "B3". The roundels could be red outlined or just had the red outline but freshely painted over with a darker blue. With the tail ID it is full bright white or very faded/washed out white. Also "PAT" is seen in model kits with both wings having stars. This seems wrong for a mid war aircraft to have.

If anyone can find a real pic that would help.

Browncoat:
3D Ripper DX to Blender 2.79/2.78 + add-on script, Edited in Blender. Than exported from Blender as .dae and loaded into ModelConverterX 1.50 (MCX) to be exported as .3ds (old). The MCX exported .3ds is loaded into gMax for assembly than exported as FS2004 model. MK_MDLC and MDLC for 64bit system is used to convert it back to CFS2.

Thanks Allen!

Another question. What is the gauge that is immediately to the left of the altimeter? I am missing that particular one.

The gauge that is 3d modeled on the left of the altimeter is a IFF (Identification, Friend or Foe) Contactor Gauge. It is just a static object since CFS2 can't make use of it.

Rohan:
Started on A-36 "PAT". Looking at other 27th FBG aircraft they had full white tail IDs and by early 1944 red outlined roundels where gone as the red outline would be brighter than the OD and Blue in BW images. Still no idea if "PAT" was 4 or 2 stars on the wings. I would guess by Dec. 30 1943 when Russo bagged 4 and 5 to become an Ace that "PAT" had no red outlined.

Haven't seen that. All image for the nose art I have seen show the woman as solid white color. This is the 1st time I'm seeing the nose art as "Pinup" art.

EDIT: Added the Pinup art and made the tail ID taller to match what is seen on other 27th FBG aircraft.

Will be uploading Cpt. Michael Russo A-36 texture soon.

Just updated the A-36 and P-51A because I trusted MS to put the star on the correct side and that was mistake as the under side star for the Burma A-36 and P-51A "Lil Sophie" where wrong.

A-36 "PAT" Texture

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Skins - American

Description: Texture of Lt Michael T. Russo's A-36 "PAT". Russo was the 1st Mustang and only A-36 Ace of the war. From Sept to Dec 1943 Russo shot down a Fw190, Storch 156, Ju52 and Dec. 30 downed 2 Bf109s. I wasn't able to find any pics of "PAT" so paint is mostly based on model kits and the look from other the 27th FBG aircraft.

The comments you make there will appear in the posts below.

Thanks Allen. When I first added the A-36, the texture of the IFF wasn't showing. It was in the folder, but CFS2 wouldn't render it. I tried to swap out the various textures, but still no joy. I deleted and added the aircraft again, and this time the IFF displayed just like the P-51A. I dunno why do that worked, whereas swapping out the textures before doing that didn't.
