A Lockheed "Rounder"

The paint in the screenshot is a work in progress I'm doing of N80A. The actual aircraft was a Learstar built from a Lodestar (close enough) and served US Steel as an executive aircraft. I've got it in a "prototype" state in FSX flying, but there's a couple of areas that I'm not happy with yet. I've got good shots of more executive Lodestars, Learstars and Howard 250s that stand a good chance of being painted.

On which common textures, one additional one that I do put in the livery folder is the parts_t texture. I do this because the prop blades are included on it as well as the engines. One thing I like to do is make the props unique to each paint. Different colors to match the aircraft on the tips and I've got a collection of prop logo bitmaps and will use different ones as the notion hits me.

Also getting back to the Twin Wasp/Cyclone thing, after spending a career in the Navy of working on piston engines, I tend to look at those closely. I've now got two different parts_t textures in my masters folder. One has a P&W Twin Wasp image and the other a Cyclone that I just did up yesterday. (I tend to let my OCD run wild where engines are concerned)

Willy,

I really like the engine graphics too. I too am a bit OCD and therefore ... since the engines set back in the nacelles about 12-14", I prefer some shading around the outer edges where light struggles to find them. That's why my existing graphic is dark. Most of the pics I have of the Harpoon, Ventura, and Lodestar you can barely make out the details of the engines. Just seems more realistic to have that shading in place IMO. :) Yup, OCD. LOL

Look in the aircraft.cfg for each livery.

Model= identifies the model and engine type

L18PW = Pratt Whitney
L18W = Wright
C60A = Wright
C57 = PW

The following is for FSX Users Only:

Usually, painters supply only livery specific textures, but not always. Those not provided are common to all liveries.

Generally, only the exterior body panels are livery specific like fuselage, wings, tails, engines. All others are common.

Here is a list attached of livery specific texture names for the Lodestar.

Put all others in the common texture folder.

If a painter wants to do his own interior, that's fine. Those interior textures will go in the livery specific folder and that will override their presence in the common folder.

The livery specific folder is always searched first, then the common folder if not found there.

Thank you very much for that info. Now I can start doing some cleanup myself.

Think I've got OCD too - must be going viral, I guess :-(

All good points re engine textures in dark cavities.

You may also want to reduce the contrast between the dark cylinder areas and cooling fins otherwise they're notorious for creating a kind of shimmering moire effect which can be very distracting in certain views.

All this is 2 minutes work if you're using layers.

You have an excellent base for textures there - just remember; a HINT of detail goes a long way.

Great work - awesome to see all this budding creativity :)

For those of you having issues trying to start the Lodestar, try this.

Ensure your mixture lever is not in shutoff position.

Grab each mag switch and drag a bit to the 2 o'clock position and hold until the engine starts.

Repeat for the other engine.

Hope this helps.

Hi Friends,
Another W.I.P. : the "Daylight"...
I'm still working in order to align the lines between fuselage's sides and top and on the engine nacelles .......

Great paint. Like the colours.

That looks great Andre! The executive Lodestar I'm working on now, I decided that I wasn't too happy with a lot of it, so most of it is getting a redo.

Redo is redone.

All that is left to do is to rework the bitmaps for FS9 (resize and convert to 888 32 bit) and package it all up. That'll be tomorrow morning though

Hi Andre,

That is a great job. :applause: I'm looking forward to add the Kar-Air Lodestar to the fleet.

Cheers,
Maarten

Thanks Maarten

The Karhumäki paints have been uploaded, they should be available soon.

Kar-Air is next, just finishing up some small items.

Thanks Willy, your executive Lodestar is also looking great.

I'm also going to take a break from doing historical paints to do a once off fictional executive Lodestar paint for the lodestar.

Just a quick question...

Will there be a paint kit for the PV-1 released?

Rachael has already done the great base pack paints, but I heard nothing since.
It would be a pleasure to get my hands on this... :wavey:

Regards, Stuart.

Yes Stuart, I'm working on sorting it out... got a lot on my plate with work and FS dev work right now finishing up a project and starting a new one... Keep meaning to sort it, but I'll do my best to get it up tonight/tomorrow.

Milton, that trick works for all Propeller powered birds as well. Holding the magneto key also works.

Thank you!

I certainly don't expect you to be rushing in to things.
No, take your your own pace, I would be happy any time.

Stuart.

N80A is up in the Library here.

NC34217 & N5114 are on the plate now. Other than a couple of pic, I haven't been able to find any info on NC34217. At least the pics are in color which is a big help. N5114 was an executive aircraft for General Motors. B&W pic, but I've got a couple of color pics of GM Convairs with pretty much the same scheme.
