A Lockheed "Rounder"

Waiting at JFK for my flight back to Blighty (came here yesterday a.m. from Lyon via London but that's a separate story) and see these terrific paints for a great new addition to FS. Been trialling the L-18 and like the fast cruise (vs DC-3) but in particular the contrast with the slow landing speed and short roll out you can get with those big Fowlers.:encouragement:

Thanks expat. Yes, the fowler flaps are certainly amazing allowing for such a slow landing and short takeoff with just one notch of flaps. Full flaps were rarely used on approach, almost never on takeoff as an engine failure meant certain catastrophe. One notch was preferred for most situations as I understand the reading.

South African Airways Lodestar

As there seems to be some interest I'll start getting them ready for download.

Thanks again to Milton for the great model and long hours. It's all appreciated.

Thank you also from my side for these textures.
So this nice ship show how elegant they have been!
Compared to the Junkers Ju-86 or the Heinkel He-111 cicilian version,
the Lockheeds has been real beauties.
Thanks for all those who work on this fine models to let us fly them.

Happy landings

Yours

Hi,

I have adapted Milton's panel for the PV-2C and was trying to add your repaints to that model...that didn't work at all !

When I switch to use the Lodestar L-18 WIP and add the panel, the 2D works perfectly, but the VC, even though it works as it should, has overlaid the original VC and you can still see where it doesn't quite match up. Is there some way to lose the 'underneath' VC?

Andy.

Hi Andy

If I understand the problem you need to change all areas in vc02.bmp that are Black (0,0,0) to something else. I used (8,8,8) and that changed it from transparent to solid.

The panels are very different between the Harpoon and Lodestars. As much as they may look similar, very different. The 2D panel is the same but it is just temporary until the VC is done.

You must use the Lodestar panel setup. Just paint the panel bmps, VC01, 02, 03, 04 in the panel folder.

Or, use the attached as something temporary for the Lodestar..

Sabena lodestar

Hi

During WWII Sabena managed to maintain their Belgian Congo routes, but all European services ceased. All photos I have are black and white, so I've gone for Olive Drab and Night. Can anyone tell me if this is correct or if anyone knows the actual colors?

The other problem is although I do not have any alpha reflective textures in the paint, there is lots of reflection off the aircraft which is supposed to be a matt finish. I'm using the default FS9 envmap.bmp, so I'm not sure how to kill the reflections.

Hi André,

The livery for these was Olive Drab over Neutral Grey. The first two of Sabena's seven Lodestars (OO-CAI & OO-CAJ, both civilian L-18-07s) were delivered in a bare metal livery, albeit with the same tricolor markings as the later camouflaged ones (OO-CAK, OO-CAO, OO-CAR, OO-CAS & OO-CAV, all five 'military' C-60A-LOs, part of a diverted RAF order)

Very nice work Andre; thank you. :applause:

The specular glare value of 37 is what I normally use. If I lower it, the glare will be less intense but spread over a wider area.
Once I get the paints installed, I'll experiment with it.

@Okami, that's great info to have; thank you for sharing it.

I will be releasing updated flight models (some say FDE's) later today for the L-18 and C-57/C-60A to fix a bunch of the issues.
