• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

A map display of SOH member locations....

Whoa! I hadn't checked my post for a while. I had no idea it would generate such interest! Any chance the map could be added to the menu as a drop down option?

Man, there are a ton already in there and I don't know quite a few. I didn't know how many people lurked around here reading only....

funny, isn't it? (the lurkers i mean)

like the fremen on arakis, a powerful force and no one can really be sure how many there are :icon_lol:

i just noticed, no pin in arizona for lionheart. wassup with that?

Who needs Arizona if you have one in Bavaria! :icon_lol::icon_lol::icon_lol:
:ernae:

Bavaria is where my ancestors lived. Philip Schirmer. His house in Speyer, is now the Tourist Information Center......

Somewhat of a revolutionary, you might say. The King at the time gave him a choice of either losing his head, or leaving the country. Luckily for me, he chose the latter!

Must have been between 1816 and 1871 then, the only time Speyer was part of Bavaria and thus had a king. Interesting, I suspect he was one of the 1849 revolutionaries. Alas, in those days they didn't execute dissenters anymore, it was more like prison or exile. A lot of Germans emigrated to America after the failed '49 revolution.

Nowadays Speyer is not part of Bavaria anymore but of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate (can you say it 3x without knotting your tongue? :icon_lol:).
Doesn't matter, after your first gallon of beer you've already proven your Bavarian ancestry (and "Navy" means a lot of gallons, I suspect).:ernae:

Cheers, Volker

Volker, I am sure it was during that time period. The only time I visited Speyer was in the summer of 1972. German beer is OH so much better than anything in the U.S. In my opinion, anyway. The only beer that comes close are the "microbrews" available now. Probably a good thing I don't live in Germany, because I would live in a state of inebriation.....

Bier and bratwurst.....yumm....

There is a control panel that lets you adjust the size of the map, and below that it says "display map on your site" So I clicked that and it had some code which I cut and pasted, and it just showed up!
