I have seen similar schemes on other German WWII Fighters, in particular, the Fw-190A and D as well as the Ta-152. I have never been able to figure out why the Germans so painstakingly put such elaborate and effective camo schemes on their fighters, and then to accent the plane with bright colours on the rudders, the fuselage and the prop spinners. Different markings for different squadrons I reckon. Others were adorned with less bright accents too.
At any rate, that paint sure looks good on the Hornisse.

I may be wrong but i belive its a lot to do with the thearter the aircraft was operating in, western front, eastern front, Hungry, Austria ect ect

The allies and other axis forces made the same ....
IMHO ...
It is in order to recognize at short distance which we are dealing and possibly what is the role of the pilot of the aircraft (Squadron Leader .. etc)
At longer distance these markings and eventually bright colours are no longer visible (they are small surfaces) and the camouflage is effective .. if well suited to the combat zone
The well camouflaged aircraft are difficult to see when they have land as background
The Me 410 illustrated by Tufun seems to be part of a Defense Of The Reich squadron (rear fuselage yellow red bands)
