A2A Piper Cub Released!

Most of the Cub textures are already 1024 or 2048, only the fuse and fuse-bump use 4096. Those 4096 are 16MB per texture. If you resize those two down to 2048 they only are 4MB large saving 12MB per texture. That would combine for a 24MB saving without loosing much of the visual fidelity.

1024 for all textures surely lightens the load much more but you'll see that - jaggy diagonal lines, logos not readable anymore etc. It depends on how much you wanna squeeze out and at what price. The downsizing of the two textures mentioned gave me a 2fps boost. Not that much, but worth it considering that that move is practically invisible.

Work in progress - One for our Deutch Fleigers (sorry about the spelling!)

A beautiful paint, gajit!!! :applause:

Hi tim

There is a logo on the tail of this one but I cannot find a photo showing what could be something like "Esso Club"

Have you any idea? :ernae:

The increased framerate sure is nice, especially in a Cub where you fly by feel, but what I'm also very happy about is that the terrain (using FTX AU) is much sharper. That really makes low and slow a lot more enjoyable.

Is the fuse/fuse-bump for the exterior model only?

Is it possible to resize textures to numbers like 768 and 1536, or is that there downsides to that? You are right about 1024 for the fuse/fuse-bump, it looks a quite pixelated.

Good looking paint there gajit!

Given the improved performance, I'm wondering if one of the gifted painters out there would be willing to do a standard, Cub-colored Cub in U.S. registration, just so us traditionalists could take advantage of more/better frames.

Any takers?

What format do you use for the texture gajit - looks like it come from the compression (BMP - DXT).

Edit: Just download your wonderfull N92497 - Repaint and notice that you saved it with MipMaps - this could be the reason for the jaggy lines.

Thanks for the good Paintjob !

Greetings Dirk

Ah yes, I think somebody pointed out elsewhere that the 4096 textures (or even 2048) only really work right if you don't mip them. By not mipping, you force them to full res, which should iron our your jaggies nicely.

I'm currently having a blast doing touch and go's with the Cub at Avalon YMAV with different weight configurations. After doing a few cirquits I like to park and switch to the P-47. It's a dramatic transition - to say the least! And realistic since the Cub was used as a basic trainer for P-47 pilots.

an Accusim T-6 would be helpful - especially if packaged with some real old Thunderbird Field training missions...navigation, formation, gunnery etc...right out of the manual and with AI instructors ( like the Heidi effect) and wingmen where applicable

I would die a thousand deaths if A2A made an accusim T-6. I would not fly another single plane for months, maybe ever. I mean that too. I'd be eternally in A2A's debt lol. I would pay hundreds of USD for such a plane if they decided to price it like that.

A2A if you're watching... :guinness:

Oh yes I would also be dead keen on a T-6/Harvard with Accusim!

A Cub is just too slow for me and the P-47 isn't an aircaft that pulls the right strings for me.. ..other aircaft I would like to see Accusimed would be the DC-3, DHC Beaver, P-40E/M/N and Spitfire Mk IX.

An Accusimed Mustang could be a starter..I understand that a Lockheed Electra 10 might be on the cards for the Accusim treatment
