Aero Commander 680 Super

Thanks

Thanks Nigel and Milton for the prompt responses. I will wait for this one as long as it takes. It is one of my favorites among your many outstanding gifts to the flightsim community.

Just a little bump to see if this fabulous aircraft will see the light of day before the London/Melbourne race coming up in October? I'm just itching to fly this bird...

Thank you for your interest in this "side project".

Unfortunately given the restraints we currently operate under, there will not be time to complete the project by your deadline.

Although most of the modeling is completed, the textures for both interior and exterior have yet to be started.
The changes were mainly prompted to get a higher resolution VC and refreshing/upgrading the interior model and textures and the exterior textures.
The flight model is fine as is.

As you may recall, this model has two different panels and one was upgraded back in 2007 to a higher resolution. That was the IKE version so if you have that, the VC gauges are very readable.
Of course any of the liveries will work on either panel'ed version.

The other panel is being upgraded along with the total interior model and some exterior changes that will be available for all variants.

So, if you really want to use the 680S, just change the panel used to the IKE variant and you will be good to go for now.

Thanks for the reply Milton. I understand about having too many things going on to finish a side project. I'll still use this plane for the race, just wondering if there had been any progress on the "refit". I really admire and appreciate all that you do for this hobby. Keeps old farts like me interested.

Hi Milton, where i can find upgraded panel for 680S? Thus far i only found 560A with high resolution panel at library here?

Well, you had me scratching my head on this question. Apparently it has not been released.

I did the Ike version VC panel upgrade first and then started on the Pegasus with a different panel. We then decided to take it up a notch on the Pegasus.

The Ike version of the upgrade has not been released. This is primarily just a vc panel update although a few other things were improved.

Since it looks like it will be awhile for this project to get the total upgrades, I will release the WIP for the IKE with the improved VC panel and gauge readability.

This needs to be standalone and separate from any current 680S you have as the model and VC panel are different (not compatible with the old model because of the VC changes) and some textures have been added.

Milton, thank you for this and so much else! You and your collaborators are a wonder!

AC680S WIP Package

Okay, I have separated out the WIP version and renamed things so that it can coexist with any AC680S you may have installed.

I made some changes to get it "acceptable" as a WIP and tested it in FS9 and FSX as a portover. I have provided 2 FSX Replacement textures for glass and props in a separate folder if you wish to try it in FSX.
The FSX performance is hot with MAP running high on full throttle but if flown correctly, it flies nicely.

This aircraft is low drag but you should have little problems getting her to slow to gear down and initial flap speeds.

There are some minor issues that shouldn't be too much annoyance to you.

The key is that the VC panel and gauges are very readable and night flying is enhanced thru gauge backlighting.

I have included no docs other than a reference with some takeoff/approach speeds etc.

I included the "Ike" and PT-BUF textures in this package.

Give it a try and see if this will hold you until we get back on this project.

For those not familiar with the AC680S Ike and PT-BUF, here are a few shots.

Thanks a LOT Milton

I was wondering about my eye-sight ( can be down I am 56 ) as all the 680 VC's look same reolution-->last night in FSX

So today my eye-sight still seems to be OK

All the very best

Thank you for the WIP files...it's great to be able to actually read all of the gauges without squinting. This is just what I needed...now to start planning my route for the London/Melbourne race!

Stunningly good

Would 1 dare to paint me that VC cockpit-->I am too stupid to do so

View attachment 11278

One need to paint vcleft and vcright.bmp off the panel.ikeb folder

Thanks for somebody trying that challenge

Roland

Just for your information, Euroastar350 has started the FSX native conversion for the AC520. He intends to do the series (560, 680, 500) as time permits.

Obviously the 680 will be last as the upgrade for it is not yet done. The others are in line for him to do.
