Aero L-39 Albatros

Hi Nick. The only plane without the tip tanks is Pipsqueak, but on the real life aircraft the tip tanks are removable. The owner, Joe Gano, flies the jet with the tanks attached almost all the time, except during the Reno air races of course, when he and his crew remove them and fit their custom winglets. So the tip tank switch and warning light remain in place I would think. Perhaps Gary can confirm, as he works with that jet.

Cheers,

-Mike

This is a stunning addon, superb work by Lotussim. I have only got the repaint kit at this time but I need to get me this aircraft soon.
I see from the psd files that this is a designer/texturer that knows what he's doing for sure.

Thanks for the amazing work Lotus:jump::jump:

PS: Photoshop CS2 and above is not the only editor able to cope with the psd-files, Corel Photo Paint X3 is also capable of doing so. Imagetool have a workaround for avoiding colour compression, whether it was intended for DXT5 textures I surely don't know for certain.
You go Image>Format>PTC; set Quality (color channels) to 100 (default for saving is 75), then Image>Format>DXT5. Finally Save As (filename).dds.

No, Joe flies "Pip" without the tip tanks. Only uses the wingletts, no external fuel fuel tanks. He also flies with the second seat until the Reno air races. It's removed here at KILG before he flies out to Reno, and once back at KILG it's reinstalled. Ejection seats are cold all the time. Not sure if he sets them to "hot" for the races or not. I can check on that once he gets back from Reno this coming weekend.

I doubt they are live, I mean I didn't think it had a zero/zero ejection seat?
I know it an ejection seat but at what altitude you had to use it at, is anyones guess!

'I'm' guessing as Gary works on it, 'he' doesn't need to guess. ;)

So Mike, can we expect an updated model including a removable rear seat etc? I know, I know...:173go1:

Thanks for the info though Gary.

Welcome to this thread "Dag"

Please do not hesitate to show us your "TopGun" digital artwork
skills with this superb LotusSim L-39.

Here are some potential subjects :

Algerian Air Force L-39 is already available and our friend "BananaBob" is working on the Libyan Air Force L-39ZO.

What about the Nigerian Air Force version with its Dayglo panels ?

Best regards

Haha, I just can't win! :)

It's all good. I'll ask Joe about it next week. All of the 39's use the same code in their cockpits, and textures, but if Joe says that system has been removed then I'll have a look at disabling it in an update. Would be the first time I'd intentionally introduce an inconsistency between the numerous project pipelines, hehe. Tip tanks light I can do. Reinstalling the rear seat and cockpit at this point would be like asking Pip not to win a race. Not a trivial thing at all unfortunately. :)

Gary, I've seen tons of pics of Pip both with and without the tanks, probably where I got confused.

Nah.... let the heros paint, I have a cottage to fully furnish. Then I'll buy the aircraft, and then maybe...

Not sure of the exact seat specs, but as an example an L-39 went off the Duxford runway once after over running the airfield - it ended up on the M11 motorway, (like the interstate for you buddies across the pond).

One person survived purely by riding the aircraft down the embankment onto the road, the other ejected but was probably at such a steep angle going down the embankment he had no chance. Luckily no-one was killed on the road either.

Nevertheless a tragic accident.

Lotus, this is absolutely the finest add-on aircraft I've ever purchased for FS. Top notch in every respect.

Thanks for a job well done!

Astrojet, thanks very much mate! Dag, thanks for the info on corel paint as well, I did not know that, very cool. I'll investigate the imagetool stuff too. Exporting directly from photoshop has been a good time saver though.

On the ejection seats, in the real jet they can be fired from zero altitude, but require at least 150 km/h of airspeed to work properly. Above 150 feet the chances of survival are dramatically increased.
