Go to your display settings in FSX, to the Aircraft tab, and set "2D panel transparency" to 0%. Once in awhile when you black out from lack of oxygen with the L-39 it doesn't reset that slider.

That will fix it.

@SolarEagle: Thanks for the great tail view. The default is a bit off indeed up there in the tail pipe.

I was fiddleing with the VC view and came up with one, that I like better...

Just add to your cfg and increase the other 00x numbers by 1. This way the new VC view is in the front of the pack and you don't have to work through multiple views to get there.

I wanted to change the view so I've the lower instrument row in view all the time (with alt, fuel etc). Hope you'll like it.

Besides I noticed that the default pilot is rather small. If you turn around the head by 180° (not that this is anatomically advisable) you don't look as that black padding where your head should sit but at the metal below. :icon_lol:

Yes the eyepoint in the cockpit is a bit lower than it would be in reality, to help those without track-ir and keep more gauges visible. In the real L-39 an average height person would have a higher viewpoint in the front seat, but it feels a little claustrophobic to me. :)
 
Indeed. I just set mine slightly higher but if set to the height that would fit the padding perfectly (and therefor would be a normal pilot) it gets "comfy up there".
 
Thanks for this guys. I'll most likely try your settings when I return from work this evening. I'm a TrackIR user and have been tilting my head back slightly, hitting the 'center' button then dropping my head to its normal position. This results in the viewpoint pointing down slightly to keep the gauges in view.

Mike, last night I swapped to the nose wheel steering (I don't have pedals) and turned on the radio stack popup. However, I couldn't get the autopilot to switch on, either using the shortcut controls or switches. It might be that I've missed something obvious, but I couldn't find reference to it in the manual to check.

However, I did take a nice flight from China Lake to Reno and the plane was a joy to keep in straight and level flight (the scenery was boring though).
 
Hey Nick, you haven't missed anything. There is no autopilot, the L-39 never came with them, so I disabled it. If you want to enable it though you can do so in the aircraft.cfg file. All the data for using keyboard autopilot commands is there, just change this line: autopilot_available=0 to 1, for each of the aircraft.cfg files.

Btw, on eyepoint and camera stuff, a bug was discovered in my camera configs that prevents the F9 (VC shortcut) key from working. My bad, I never use it! :) I've fixed it and am testing it out. I will have it included in an update for the plane as soon as I track down a couple more bugs.

Hi Mike, sorry I wasn't very clear. I removed the //'s from the config file for the popup, but I didn't notice the autopilot line. I'll alter that tonight, thanks. What I didn't see was reference to this information in the manual.
 
By the way, I'm somewhat surprised looking at the configs of the external cams. Is that supposed to be an eastereg? I mean configs like that...
