AH working on C-46 Commando

A native C-46 has been MIA in FSX for way too long, so I am especially looking forward to flying this important aircraft. The Curtiss Commando contributed much to the war effort in the China-Burma-India Theater. And since AH has done such a fine job on the Helldiver, I know the Commando will be another winner. Now those flights over the Hump will finally be flown in a proper mount...excellent!

Here is a plate depicting the C-46 from William Koenig's book "Over the Hump Airlift to China".

Already hoping this one can be added to list of Military C46.

That one is definitely on the list.:engel016:

Fantastic! Finally a ticket to the left seat of Dumbo without spending a year as a rampie ;)

Looking forward to this round one as well! She looks fantastic Baz.... but how does she FLY??

Carl

:biggrin-new: Good one.

Hopefully the devs are watching plenty of Ice Pilots to gather some info regarding the flight model. They talk plenty about it on the show, and call it the most difficult aircraft to fly, especially landing in a crosswind.

Really looking forward to the Commando!

Cheers,

Not an easy aeroplane to fly at all. The original flight manuals and maintenance documents are a real eye-opener. Happily we have an "Ice Pilot" on board who will be advising us as we get into the hard stuff.:engel016:

A little History on R5C Commando

BuNo 39507 was first assigned USAAF S/N42-23758 (C/N26593) but was one of about 40 C-46As completed with BuAer numbers, as R5C-ls for the US Marine Corps, serving at first with MAG-35 in the south-west Pacific during WWII. She was later transferred to the US Navy and assigned to NAS Corpus Christi and it during this time in 1953 that she served as the Blue Angels support aircraft.

Nope, the C-46 has a pair of R-2800s with the resulant increase in hp and fuel usage.

Indeed, the VC looks very nice. A definite buy for me. I'm biding my time and getting my fix watching old Ice Pilots episodes.

Details example for "The Tinker Belle." Note the Air Transport Command insignia by the horizontal stabilizer

Yummy! Can't wait for this beauty.... but as always YoYo.... HOW DOES SHE FLY! I've been spoiled by the likes of Alex Metzger, Bernt Stolle and Rob Young.... can't seem to fall in love with much else....

Thanks for the LOVELY PHOTOS! I always look for your screenshots- they are AMAZING!

Carl

PS- looking at some of the instruments, perhaps the FDE bit isn't complete yet. When it is- I'd love to know how she "feels". Ta!
