Sad news today. One of the icons of the airport here in New Castle, DE is closed permanently. I was over there most of the day trying to save items from the restaurant. All the old WWII photos are gone now. People that had them on lone to ATC picked them up today. Some are going to other museums and ATC restaurants.
I did manage to get all the sandbags that were stapled to the walls, plus a parachute pack and parachute. Also a WWII era suitcase.
The airport has now taken over the building, and it will be used for SWAT training for a few weeks. After that I'm guessing the building will be demolished. Which in it's self is a a shame. It's all timber framing and if taken down properly would make great framework for a home.... a very big home too.
This is how it used to be.....
