Glad you like it folks, It looked simple enough when he asked for it so I ran it up... I liked the weathering on the original where the front lower cowl and rudder had been replaced and markings faded... And I'm a soft spot for 'personal' aircraft. That and his wife flew it, we aviatrix must stick together :p

Finally have time for my quick debrief. Have about 60 minutes in the plane, and really enjoying it. It fits perfectly with my FSX usage, and answers most of my personal "musts".

my only issue is with the quite annoying engine sound loop. This has also been pointed out by others, and i have a feeling it will be adressed at some point.

Any appetite for an airliner or military trainer type schemes? Was thinking of the Schweizerische Luftverkehrsschule / Fluggruppe Swissair schemes in particular ...

I'd like to try some when I get chance, The swiss one looks good :) Also got my eye on the Breitling ones... :D Afraid I haven't got time for many more at the moment though, got some work to finish for two evil taskmasters on here.. (they know who they are )

if I do get chance I'd like to try a few, but I'm sure some of the other artists here can sate your appetites in the meanwhile!
 
Since my purchase of the lovely Thomahawk III have been doing a little reading up on this little bugger :wavey:

Please Sir, I would like to ask bstolle as he has created a fine flight model for the Tomahawk II if he would consider creating the 125HP super hawk Flight Model... I am sure he is very busy with flying and his FSX work but on reading about the upgrade (to the same engine) persons whom have done so love it.

I agree BigB. The engine sound loop is my only issue as well. Nice to see somebody from Ottawa (one of my "home towns").

I don't know if there are any 'official' performance data for a 125hp PA38, (a quick google search didn't reveal anything performance related) but basically this is a very easy do-it-yourself modification.

Open the cfg file with the standard text editor or note/wordpad and look for the section

[piston_engine]
power_scalar = 1.0

In the PA38 case 1.0 = 112hp

Simply change the number to 1.12 and you have a 112 x 1.12 = 125hp version

AFAIK max RPM and the prop stays the same, so no other changes are needed.

Hi bstolle;

Not sure if this applies because I'm uncertain if the numbers apply to a Tommy with a factory fresh Lycoming O-235 or one's that have some time on them, but the spec sheet over at PiperTomahawk.com
states that the Lyc develops 112hp @ 2,600 rpm (max power?), while the so-called Superhawk STC bumps the output to 125 hp @ 2,800 rpm. And yes, no change of prop is required.

oops, makes sense with a fixed pitch prop. I'll look into that ASAP.

edit: Just checked the air and cfg file. Looks like we are luck ;)

With these modifications the climb rate is now 1000ft/min and the Vmax at SL 120kts which seems to be approximately correct.
The RPM limit needs to be changed on the gauge to have the redline at 2800 as the RPM now slightly exceeds 2700RPM in high speed level flight but that's nothing I can do.

Yup. I was watching a video on YouTube awhile back by a chap who operates a Tomahawk out of Kelowna, BC, and his tach was redlined at 2800 but he indicated in the vid that the highest he took it was 2,700, so I'm assuming he must've had the 125hp mod done. As far as re-doing the dial that's a non-issue to me...

I went about it the long way I'm afraid
my adjustments went this way

power_scalar = 1.10
cylinder_displacement=93.425 //373.7 cu in (6.124 litre)
compression_ratio= 8.5 This ratio I found

thrust_scalar = 0.9

max_rated_rpm= 2800 Check
max_rated_hp= 125 Check

parasite_drag_scalar=1.2 to ajust top end speed down a bit
I read owners of the STC Mod they could get about 115 knots, funny i thought it would be more

If you are are going that way, I would strongly recommend to change the parasite_drag back to 1.0 and the thrust scalar to 1.0 as well.
The high drag scalar e.g. ruins the glide ratio.
Just reduce the power scalar until the max speed is 115kts.
With the higher RPM (and the higher compression) you do get already more hp. The cfg file contains a lot of data that are just for reference.
The important items are in the air file.
