Albatross! Albatross! I haven't got any ice cream, just got this Albatross!

Noted the enthusiasm, (& liveries), for the Albatross in this thread & fired it up this morning for the 1st time. [SU 2 Beta]
After finally locating the RPM 'switches', I had it set up cruising very nicely on the AP.
Mike Johnson has done a great job on this aircraft, one of the smoothest & most realistic aircraft in MSFS 2024.
Going to be putting some hours up on the G-11.

Two more repaints, I did.

Thomas, maybe you're able to answer this, or someone else who might be in the know - out of curiosity, how were folks able to get the textures, to begin with, from the MSFS 2024 Albatross? Is there a way to "capture" the files while streaming them? That is something I've been hoping for, with some of the other MSFS 2024 aircraft.

I would really like this one but there is no variant with this nose with AS Radar. In Hellenic Air Force Service it was known, for more than obvious reasons, as the "Goofy":

There are a few developers on Discord who have cracked the encryption. Then there are repainters who have published a repaint from it, see gcs7e7's repaint of the Albatross N211MC on fs.to.

Now I have the information of the necessary file structure and can start with my repaints.

At the moment there are only a few templates of the native FS2024 airplanes in the form of repaints. CL-415, C-47/DC-3, PC-24, Cessna 185, Cessna 208, Cessna 408, A400, Saab 340, Airbus H225, H125, Drako and the HU-16.

Perhaps it is now possible to read out the streamed content via the SDK. But I haven't looked into this in detail yet.

Thank you, Thomas, for your detailed reply, I appreciate it! I've released a few repaints for the MSFS 2024 P-51D, but only thanks to the fact that I can get most of the files from MSFS 2020 - those that are unique to 2024, of course, I haven't been able to snatch/work with. I plan on working on bringing my 2020 Curtiss Jenny repaints over to 2024, but will have the same limits.

Thank you as well, Thomas, for the fantastic repaints you've made for the Albatross.

Hey, for you talented folks asking about the textures, the author of the Albatross finally released a full-on paint kit for it! It's up on fs.to:

Mike Johnson has to be one of the most responsive developers out there. While I can't repaint myself, I'm sure this paint kit will trigger a flood of new colour schemes for his superb Albatross. Well done, Mike ( aka @Lotus )

Awesome, Tim! It looks brilliant, and now I don't have to think about painting that one either. That particular Albatross is one of a few that are located fairly close to where I live, and that one, N99TP, is kept very active.

Thank you for the kind words, and great job on N99TP, Tim, just beautiful work. Sorry the paint kit took so long to get done, but I hope it's a little helpful at least.

Cheers!

@jimjones Thank you. What issue are you having with the autopilot?
Initially, nothing worked. Later, after a sim restart, setting HDG and ALT worked. I'm able to set a NAV frequency, but unable to activate a capture of an ILS or APPR. The indicator lights for those features don't come on. Must be missing something, but don't know what.

Ok, thanks. I'll have a look at that. Is the problem in the HU-16 or G-111 or both?

Problem only with the Hu-16. Had not flown the G-111 yet. It works a charm. Love the Garmin G1000.
I've done a few tests with the HU-16, engaging approach mode on the autopilot with an ILS tuned, and it has worked perfectly every time, with pretty solid tracking. It's probably a silly question, but did you check the NAV1/GPS nav source switch before trying APR mode? It's on the center console in front of the GNS530, and needs to be forward in NAV mode for an ILS to work on the HSI and autopilot.

If it still doesn't work for you after that, then maybe something has been fixed in SU3. A huge update for the Albatross will come with or shortly after that one goes public.

You did help me to catch a bug with the HSI's glideslope "off" flag though, so thanks! It's inverted from what it should be, and that will be fixed in a small follow-on update coming with SU4.

Cheers.
