All aircraft carrier related files...

"Carrier and Convoy Planner" by the FSX@War team. http://www.fsxwar.com/?lang=en#download
Designed to be used with TacPack, but I think it works without.

great link - this looks promising, thanks for posting it - just the kind of information this thread was initiated for.

also - I'm not well versed in aircraft.cfg manipulation but if someone has the basics of what to add to a carrier based aircraft to make it functional
(ie: tailhook and launchbar entries) in FSX/Accel and or P3D - I think this would be the place.

anyone know of a file - maybe a scenery - that includes a slingload for the helo's?

might be fun to bring a crate of peel n stick porn-'staches to an UnRep party...

I know there are aircraft carriers of several types for the US Navy

There is a fine British Carrier - the HMS Victorious

There are a couple of French Carriers - the Clemenceau and the Charles DeGaulle of the RFN - available http://royalefrenchnavy.perso.sfr.fr/RFN-Creations.htm

and this one - from Russia - the Kiev - available here: http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/fslib.php?searchid=37048885

(interesting link for online carrier ops multi-player here: http://www.fsxcarrierops.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=14524246

are there any others of the same quality?

I've got an FSX Seafire by AH knocking around somewhere. Can't remember how good or bad it is I'm afraid nor if it was native.

EDIT: Found it.. it's not native.. that or it's pre SP.

yes I had seen that one - not FSX native - there is an excellent repaint of the RealAir Spitfire in a Seafire scheme - I suppose one could add the aircraft.cfg edit to make it work on
the carriers...without the animations.

Yep.. easier said than done though. I've tried the tail hook settings off the AH model and I can't get the RA Spit to trap. Tried the settings off the Flying Stations Sea Fury too without success:banghead: It'll launch ok mind you.

does it just sail through the arresting cable area - or does it do the dreaded yank / slam / rotate through the deck manouver ?

because if does the latter I think you just have to lengthen the hook or move it aft using the appropriate config number

Yo there:wavey:

Just sails through which caught me out as I expected to be on my nose!:biggrin-new: Tailhook length on the AH Seafire is 4ft (it's an odd contraption) and the Sea Fury is shorter at 3ft. It picks up the launch gear fine and launches great.. if a little fast.. with the Sea Fury settings. I'll go back to the Seafire for the hook and have a fiddle. In fact.. I'll try and trap with the AH Seafire.
With 25kts of wind coming over the deck.. you can actually get the RA Spit down and stopped.. just but it'd be nice to have it trap;)

I think the cure for that (Tim Conrads' Skyraider did the same) was to move the tailhook aft - quite a ways aft...unfortunately I lost the data in a hard drive failure and have not yet located the adjusted file entry

No problem mate;). I don't want to drag the thread astray so unless someone has a definite setting that works on the RA Spit.. put it to bed for more important stuff;) I've tried quite a few entries this afternoon including the one from the WBS Mustang (which about as aft as can be) and for some reason.. the Spit just carries on.
Anyway.. you've reminded about Piglets Skyraider. Must go and dig that out:very_drunk:

I recall some improved tailhook entries for Conrad's Skyraider done up and a long time ago (was it Rich? RIP) - I think it was NC and others who were having issues.

A part of it was fuel state and approach speed - a lot of folks were too high on both. I'm always at 20% or less, and no more than 90 kts at the fantail (touchdown about 85 kts). Always apply power on touchdown, and never brake - no issues. Again, the updated tailhooks improved things, but it was never horrible to begin with. I'll post tomorrow if no one beats me to it.

Back to links - while his work is not strictly naval, Rob Richardson did a number of superb RN/FAA models: http://www.robertjamesrichardson.co.uk/

  • Supermarine Attacker (his best model/texture job to date, in my view)
  • DeHavilland Sea Hornet
  • DeHavilland Sea Venom
  • Fairey Gannet
  • Sea Vampire
  • Gloster Meteor F3 RN

I'm probably missing some, but that's what I can think of right now.

Oh, and check out his scenery - RNAS Ford is a lovely place to hop in/out of in a '50s RN FAA bird for some Channel flying / carrier practice. Right near the water, and beautifully modeled with static Attackers parked ....

Now that is a very useful list orionll!

I had most of these, however, I had no idea about the "Multiplayer Carriers". Downloaded and intend to try it soon online. Any feedback from people using it online? Looks like a brilliant way to enjoy carrier ops in free flight mode.

Sound advice DL for trapping this one and other WWII fighters.

Can't find this or other scenery on Rob's web site - where did you get it?
