• There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.

If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.

Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

Another Archive Shot

I can't claim any credit for that one Ed (I'd like too!) but I was otherwise 'occupied' that year in a zone that was lucky to have a dirt road, let alone any form of race track.
IIRC it was probably a Pete Lyons shot, but I couldn't swear to it.

:kilroy:

Here's a couple of mine, Giacomo Agostini riding the absolutely fabulous MV Augusta at Calder Park, a flat and fairly average circuit.
IIRC the Yamaha in P2 was ridden by Jack Findlay, one of the earliest of the Aussies to ride a two stroke 500.
I'll need to make time to scan my negatives, they're showing signs of deterioration.

I always admired Agostini's abilities and those shots took me back to my youth. :icon_lol:

Of course, being a Brit, Barry Sheene was my racing hero of that era. :applause:

I got my first bike in 1974 and was a keen follower of all the racing news and went to every home match at my local speedway circuit.

Tako, Barry became a much loved figure on the Aussie racing scene when he immigrated out here.
He ended up as a presenter on one of the networks which really covered all Motorsport (sadly, not today!) well, typical Barry Sheene remark, "Welcome to Philip Island, gateway to Hypothermia" .................... :applause:
He's missed by almost all the Australian enthusiasts, his death hit us quite hard, but today, the 'Barry Sheene Ride' tribute to PI for the MotoGP week has reached 20,000+ participants, from all over the country.
I suppose we awarded him the highest Aussie 'honour' by regarding Barry as a 'Good Bloke'.

One that is out of left field, the Ecosse 2.7 Climax that started life as a Cooper Monaco, rebuilt after a write-off and a really quck FL car.
I shot this at one of those flat and cold English circuits (The name escapes me!) on a grey day in 1980, at an historic Club meeting, the young lady I was involved with at the time took me along.
The scanning of all my negs from that event is underway, I'll post some of the interesting ones shortly, like the slightly scruffy road registered 250GTO driven to the circuit, raced and then driven home.
Never happen these days!!
