Another USN Bird Neglected in Flight Sim

Daveroo,

That also may be the TS-2A as shown here

well Milton..this shows my knowlage......HUH?....lol......if you are saying its a differant airframe and cant be done...well shoot but im good with that....if it can be done weeeeee....

im simple minded and easy to please...and to be honest...besides the numbers on those plates you posted...i can see the belly differances..but not much else....:jump:

Just to clarify things for everyone, I hope to be able to do the exterior model of the E-1B, and would like to do the C-1A as well. (Note there are major difference in fuselage and empennage between these aircraft). However, at this point I am not committing to do anything other than research and data collection as I have 3 projects going right now. Not sure when I could get started if I do this but all this research is helping me or anyone who wants to jump into the fray and work on this neat project. I am excited about it. It would be great if the rumored payware project would come out; save a lot of work if someone has one well along.

With that said, if I do any of this, my intent would be to do the E-1B first, then possibly do the C-1A. Depending on how things go, it would be neat to do a S2F of some variant, I am thinking a -3 but that might change. If a -3 is done, then the TS-2A would easily be possible.

Let's keep collecting the information. Pilot reports would be nice, a POH or other manual with more details would be great. All in all, this is good stuff and fun to do; that's what this is all about, yes? :jump:

Once I get this AT-11 out the door, and get the Dash 7 back on the burner, then I think I can look at this more seriously. I can work on the XP47J concurrently, in its VC construction stage.

At this point, it is hard to make commitments on specific variants. There may be good reasons to do certain S2F's but not sure yet what the real history is on them, ... most built/utilized.

Thanks for all the efforts and enthusiasm. :applause:

Thanks h52 :)

One can't have enough reference pictures of all angles when the "real McCoy" isn't available to you. I have roughly 460 pictures collected now of the variants, and some excellent very large hi-quality shots, up close and personal.

Would still like to have a POH for the E-1B and the C-1A. I have the S2F-1 and -2 manual, but not the -3 which is quite different in the cockpit.

AJ-2P, nice C-1 shots from the Korean website. Interesting "scalloped" edge on the underside white paint. Not exactly standard procedure, must be a VRC-40 thing. BTW, your forum name brings up another obscure USN bird I'd like to see some day. I like the "Mickey Mouse" looking nose on the photo version of the AJ. :)

There are at least two S2-F's not too far from my home, so if you need photos let me know!

Here's the C-1 Trader that I rode in. It's now in the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola. Note the Bicentennial paint scheme

Great shots Ferry. I have several hundred reference pictures now, maybe 100 up close and personal shots of every part of the aircraft so until this gets started, I will not know. The shots that are always lacking are good interior shots, left and right side cockpit shots, the wall sides (i.e what's beside the pilot/co-pilot on the walls, ceiling, behind overhead). Thanks

Interior shots will be a bit harder to obtain, especially since it's very hard to photograph the interior from the outside due to the Spherical side windows (There used to be a stair next to the Marine 'Stoof' (S2F) but people kept banging their heads on the plexiglass. :icon_lol:)

Understandable for any museum piece ... not to worry, there is a long time to pass before such pictures will be needed, and maybe not even by me. :) It would be great if someone did this as payware to get a really hi-quality unit. We will give them 4 months, then I will start it if no one else does.

The Savage has always been a favorite of mine. I can remember seeing a couple rows of AJ-2s and -2ps along with lots of trackers at NAF Litchfield Pk in the early 60s. I would love to help with any one of these projects. But, I am still pretty new at this.

Now seeing this thread, i will help out as much as i can with the E-1B considering its one of my absolute favorite birds!

Yes sir; more great shots. Thanks :jump:

Here is one thing to always look out for: The hardest good shots to find show the top of the aircraft as you might see at an aircraft show in a 90 degree bank. A good view of the top really helps me and the texture artists.
