Although the airfield is not longer in use most of the buildings in the scenery are still there. On a nice sunny afternoon I dragged Cees all around this airfield to show him these buildings. It was very nice, especially as I knew Cees only via the forums and this was the first time we actually met in person.

As with many wartime object in occupied territories there isn't much (reliable) doccumentation available. For the Germans it there was not much reason to save the old Dutch information and they destroyed much of their own (often classified) information. Preserving history wasn't exactly the highest priority after the war in the countries which had been occupied during the war.

Cees,
I remember that from a year or two ago(?), and yes that's the general sort of layout/detail level would be good to have as generic Luft bases. As Mike asks, any thoughts on releasing it for use, both as Katwijk and other bases?

Cheers

Cees,

I can send you the version I have, which is most probably the latest one you did as it came with the dunes.

The construction of the military airfield Valkenburg began on 17 April 1939. During the German invasion in May 1940 there was a fierce battle for control over the airport, even though it was not yet drained and was not yet operational.
The occupiers finished the construction of the airport and entered it into service as "Flugplatz Katwijk". Until 1943 Valkenburg was kept in use as an auxiliary base, then the Germans rendered the airport completely useless.
The scenery is also suitable for FS9.
Enjoy!

Just downloaded and installed it. Given the 1941 to 43 dates, I also reinstalled my Wings of Power Me 109 Emil to fly about from the Flugplatz. Thanks for posting it!

I can't find it

I just installed the Flugplatz Katwijk German airbase but can't find it anywhere.
I've installed a lot of scenery so I know how to do it but under "The Netherlands " it doesn't show up in the airports list. I had to search the internet to find it was in the Netherlands , does it have a icao code?I searched both the addon scenery and the default scenery but can't find it under any of the names.
Could it be because I installed the Netherlands 2000 scenery ?

Type in the code EHVB. I don't know if it's compatible with Netherlands 2000.
Hope this helps!
Have fun!

One of the finest 109's around. I remember making some repaints for that one!

Cees

BTW: this was only a beta version, in case you find some flaws....

That worked Cees

I had to disable the Netherlands 2000 scenery for it to showup but it works fine now, shows under Valkenburgh Navy when I put EHVB in.. I can disable the Netherlands scenery whenever I want to fly one of my Luftwaffe planes also even though I applied the fix for Netherlands scenery which causes planes to appear half buried in the ground ,the planes wheels still are partly bellow ground level even with the 2000 scenery disabled, not a big deal since I fly from the cockpit and the planes take off fine.
So thanks Cees for the scenery ,and have a great Christmas and New Year.

Did any of you read "Bomber" by Len Deighton? If so, Katwijk sure seems to be in about the right area for the Luftwaffe Flugplatz in the book, although the dates don't match up. I think the book took place in 1944 when the Lancaster force was at full strength.

In the book there was a Nachtjaeger Ju 88 unit at the base. Of course the book was historical fiction, but it is well worth the read if you find it at the library.

I read Bomber

I read Bomber and thought it was one of the best books I ever read. I now have two copies in my libary.
