Is it possible to set the labels so that they show airfields only? I'd like to simulate setting down on a freindly base and asking where I am. If so how is it done (adjusting the label setting)?

Some nice guy informed me that you can pull up the Map and mouseover an aerodrome and it will show the name.

The map is verboten, it hogs memory and can cause the mission to crash (as I've had happen once). Hence why I'm using real maps now.

You can get shot at by your own MG crew
In Campaign at least you have RED, and BLUE
BLUE is always British
RED is always German
But with a changing front line, bases close to the front, change landlords rather often

I guess the labels don't give an airfield's name then?
Scrub that idea I suppose. I think I'll struggle along with my maps until v1.2 gives us flight-leaders who don't crash the entire flight into the ground. Better lost than dead.

I think the label colors depend on which side you fly for. The blue always seem to be friendly, the red are the enemy. I've flown for both sides and the enemy is always red.

Just an idea...You could in-flight map one time to initially get the airfield names, write them on your paper map, then no need to use the in-flight map again (so no computer problems).

That wouldn't work. It's when I'm totally lost that I need a fix. Putting down on an airfield and asking where I am, as it were, would give me a fighting chance.
Still, I got by on my last mission. Some of the game's landscape features were on the map Gouganis so kindly made and supplied to everyone and I was able to navigate to and from the target quite well. I can see that it'll be possible to learn the entire area like ones own back yard over time.

Indeed, and I was saying the very same thing to my brother on Skype. All those oft-repeated lines in books and movies..."You'll soon learn your way around..." Never really grasped it before, but todays flying was like a light being switched on.
I wonder how many pilots died by being bounced while struggling to understand a map.

I understand that when operations allowed, new pilots were sent up to learn the area near to their own aerodrome.
In game I have a similar experience in that I now know the area between Albert, St Quentin, Arras and Cambrai pretty well, but when my squadron flies elsewhere I spend too much time looking at a map and scratching my head.

Actually Blue is always your side. Whether it be Germany or the Allies you fly for.

I personally have not yet had an issue with the map, but I do have a lot of memory on my computer.
I guess I feel I'm lucky if I get down at all!

After Winder's instuctions on how to reduce the physical size of the cockpit-map I've gone back to using it and had no problem on the last mission. Fingers crossed it remains that way, because using a real map is simply too much work. I can do it, just about, and it's an interesting challenge, but it's extremely tiring and not a lot of fun after all.
