Attention all DC-3 fans !

A pack of Lucky Strike would need to go with that Zippo. Wasn't that standard issue in WWII?? :tears_of_joy:

Make it the Straight variety:biggrin-new: no filter. Other known brands as I remember from Old time Bushy's are Pall-Mall and Winston's, Camel's. All said Straights no Filter. One can learn a lot from the Old Bushy's at the Bush Pilots Memorial in Yellowknife along with Wild Cats.

@Javis - no, I understood that the eyebrows were 3D objects. Sorry, my message wasn't clear. I was thinking that a clean/no eyebrows and a worn/no eyebrows version would do the trick and would be easier for you to manage. But it sounds from your reply as though eyebrows on/off is a matter of one click. If so, and if that's in fact easier, then that'd be an equally good (or better) way of providing different wear options - and with lighting variations, too. I'd be fine with that. Actually I'd be fine with anything you've shown so far - the current lighting looks good, too. Really glad to see all this coming together.

You really have to look hard but I like #2 but the panel is so wonderful either way, for me its a toss up. Super job, can't wait to install it and fly the HUMP.

Like Alan I was trying to make it easy on you...the eyebrows are more impressive! You decide Jan...last time I was in the army no choices were offered unless the lesser choice was pure hell...like burning the **** detail in the bush (ya had to be there). Ickie knows! I would love the 2nd option!

Frankly, i do prefer the eyebrows .. that added little extra detail, the gauges eyebrows do extrude from the panel and they also look exactly the same but for a little cockpit dust and wear and tear .. really just adds to the real feel ...... by the way , me names not Frank:biggrin-new:

This is exactly what Jan has portrait'd .. this is with a 'lot of light to get the detail' .. and dang , done a super fantastic build .. EYEBROWS for me :encouragement:

The real answer is which one is faster!!!! Mouth watering now and hitting the refresh key a lot. With the base airplane and this cockpit, my MAAM DC-3's are about to go to the bone-yard. I don't suppose you would be able to suggest a time frame....hint hint, wink wink.

Jan,

Personally 'eye' like the brows. But whichever you decide will be impeccable I'm sure. But I see a brow/no brow panel option in the future. So everyone will have the option of their choice. The entire cockpit is looking brilliant!

Anxiously awaiting finished product.

Guess everyone has their own taste.

I root for #1, but would like the option to select the "eye brow" version where suitable.

A bit of XML magic for Jan:

Code:
PartInfo>
Name>Gauge_Eyebrows/Name>
 Visibility>
        Parameter>
            Code>
            (A:TITLE, string) 'EYEBR' sstr 0 >
            /Code>
        /Parameter>
    /Visibility>
/PartInfo>

(Note: Tags had to be mutilated to avoid rendering issues with the board software. Anyone who has seen XML code before can easily fill them in though.)

Tag the eyebrow models with this in 3ds Max and they will appear whenever a repaint's title= line contains "EYEBR". No need for multiple cockpit models and you can call it ad lib from a repaint.

My 2 cents: I'll take panel # 2 !!!!

When I had my Cessna 172, it originally came with a sort of 'wide angle overhead spot light' on the ceiling and a 'spot light' on the pilots door post. Well that worked ok if you had instruments that their 'faces' and 'needles' would glow OR you sat back far enough where your head wouldn't block out some of the instruments - otherwise you'd have to turn the lights up so bright that in turn would end up bothering me when I was looking 'outside'..

I rebuilt my panel and installed 'instrument post lights' which in most cases just replaced the upper 2 screws that held the instruments in - hooked them up thru a reostat so I could control the intensity and LOVED THEM !!! I still had the other lights but ended up only using them for looking for something around the cabin / cockpit or reading the map..

Now, with all that said, I'll take anything you elect to give me !! (beggars can't be choosers) BUT I prefer panel #2 with the 'eyebrow' lighting..

Great idea, Bjoern, thanks ! :encouragement: The gauge lighting itself will have to go along as well of course.

Sure thing it can. Just put this as an additional "AND" condition into the code that makes the lighting appear.

Maybe this is a good time say (nay SHOUT!), just how grateful I am, and more than a little envious of some of the talent out there. I seriously believe that FSX might have died a painfull death, at least in my house, were it not for the level of talent and enthusiasm of you guys that undertake projects like this.

So once again.... THANK YOU BIG TIME!

That's another type of gauge bezel, Ian, mate. Not sure but i don't think these have lighting from inside neither. Here's a good pic of these 'eyebrows' i am getting at :

There's a light bulb at each side. It shines thru a small recess onto the gauge.

Not from a Dakota, i think this may be from a Neptune but they were used in DC-3/C-47's as well ( http://cdn-www.airliners.net/aviation-photos/photos/1/0/9/1233901.jpg ) another type of direct gauge lighting you can see above the compass and arti horizon.
