Avsim developed a lot of enemies over the years.
Yep.
However, I hope things work out for them
There seems to be an uptick in Political comments in recent months. Those of us who are long time members of the site know that Political and Religious content has been banned for years. Nothing has changed. Please leave all political and religious comments out of the forums.
If you recently joined the forums you were not presented with this restriction in the terms of service. This was due to a conversion error when we went from vBulletin to Xenforo. We have updated our terms of service to reflect these corrections.
Please note any post refering to a politician will be considered political even if it is intended to be humor. Our experience is these topics have a way of dividing the forums and causing deep resentment among members. It is a poison to the community. We appreciate compliance with the rules.

Very true! Terrible news!:isadizzy:This is a bigger loss than MS closing the Aces studio![]()
Avsim developed a lot of enemies over the years. After they banned me and blocked all my IP's for posting links to A2A's B377 preview video I've had nothing good to say about the place, their moderators, or their moderation practices. The file library was good though.
I am glad to see the overhwelming number of posts are well intentioned and sincere expressions of concern and support for AVSIM, a wonderful resource for files and a great forum for open and detailed discussion of the sim world. I continue to support them and all sincere and dedicated sites for this great community and hope that ppl will stay positive and supportive in this time of challenge for AVSIM.
... which is likely part of the reason it was targeted.

They think it may have been an inside job....

Its going to take a data recovery service to do the job , with the hard drive in hand , once we have some information on the matter we will post the information , at the moment we don’t have anything but speculation.<o></o

I agree. Files can be replaced by all the folks who downloaded them over the years and any that can't were probably obsolete anyway. But a forum is like a knowledge base and when those are lost it really hurts. Unfortunately over the past few of years forums have been going down much more often than file collections. For the reasons I mentioned I think the emphasis should always be on making the forum as strong as possible. And then worry about the file collection. We've been dealing without their library for a week now anyway -- you get used to that -- but the lack of interaction and lost information is the bigger loss. JMHOMost -if not all- of the "files" are still available "somewhere" and it's "merely" a matter of rebuilding the library one file at a time...
However, the loss of twelve years of accumulated wisdom that was archived in the >200,000 posts in the "Aircraft and Panel Design" forum simply cannot be replaced. Many of the contributors to the knowledge base are no longer with us to contribute anew, having finally earned their...
Over the last ten years, hardly a day has gone by where I didn't spend some time researching something in that forum for either myself or someone else who asked for help with a thorny issue. Now it is gone:![]()
Why did you get banned for that?
Did you really just type that?perhaps why they brought this attack on their self.
I would call that forum moderation overkill at its worst
