B-17 Accusim Released!!!

Wow Jankees

I was considering doing a weathered job but no need with that excellent repaint a few days ago .

Fantastically Well done :salute:

Well, since you seem to like dirty birds, here's another one: "Screaming Eagle".
Again, still very much work in progress, but now you know it's in the pipleline..

I had to make some concessions to the original here, but feel it still looks nice, don't you agree?

Guys, that's officially it for me. I'm spoiled rotten by this B-17.

Every other aircraft that should have a crew feels dead and lifeless to me. This is truly how simming should be. I will no longer dog accusim and call it accu-fail. All the problems with the 377 that made it a pain in the butt are fixed, and the B-17 operates exactly how I imagine it should.

Thats what I said a while ago ...

But I like it ... (despite the fact I don't like painted deicer boots. I like em black like they should be! )

Well, Ol'Gappy has a few simple patches.
This one has no deicer boots, since the original didn't have them either.

A bit more progress, see if you can spot the differences:

You probably all know 42-102515 as "Aluminium Overcast", but in reality, that is aircraft #44-85740.
The original 42-102515 flew with the 398th BG, and was shot down over France on
August 13, 1944.
It was not called 'Aluminium Overcast', but 'The Bronx Bomber the second", and may have looked something like this:

The black paint on the nose was applied after it flew through something corrosive, to stop the aluminium from corroding further. I'm not sure about the colour of the name, it looks like red on the original, bare metal, nose, but I'm not sure if it stayed that way. Maybe I should leave the black away?

I found one more pic, showing it had a red tail after all.
I toned down the black a bit, made the name yellow (being colorblind, I had problems seeing the red version), moved Ellen a bit, and changed some other odds and ends.
How do you like it now?

Fun detail: when it was shot down, 'the Bronx Bomber' was piloted by Lt Hal Weekly, who later would pilot 'Aluminium Overcast' for the EAA. Listen to him tell his tale here .

being colorblind, I had problems seeing the red version),

I sure hope you're kidding here ... or this is probably one of the most ironic statements I've read in a good while.

QUICK GUYS!! Is there an emergency gear extension somewhere? I have plenty of gas, so I'm orbiting the airfield as I type. I'm going to dig into the manual, but it might get to me faster through you here!

edit: no luck. I tried to have the copilot put it donw manually, and he said it was stuck. I did a touch and go on the left main only to jar it loose. It moved a little, but that was about it. I ended up having to put it down on the right wing. I did kill and feather 3 and 4 before landing once I'd turned final. That saved to two engines.

Gear problems. Here are a few screenies from my escapades above.

no luck jostling it loose with a hard landing on the left main...

There were no other options. Like I said, I tried to have the copilot manuall bring it down, but it was stuck. I did shut down three and four on final.

Wow Tigs ...

Tough break bud.

I am almost certain A2A said that somewhere in the crew commands there is an option to order the crew to crank the gear, I'm not sure the copilot was the one to select to do that. Either the Engineer/ttg or waist gunners, would have been my choice, (but hey thats me,).

I'm not as familar with the accusimmed 17 as I'd like to be (other distractions going on in my life at the moment,) but one day I hope to get to know her pretty good.
