B-17 Accusim Released!!!

I suppose the flash suppressors were painted red, but I've no idea why, other than to give the crewman manning the nose turret a quick reference to which way the guns were pointed.... Just a WAG on my part..

if they are flash suppressers (not only do they look totaly different to what the raf used!) why arnt they on every gun?? not nit picking just curious :)

Yup. Not only a G model B-17, but a G model B-52.

I'm aware of the post war bombers bearing the name but not another B-17 during the war.

A list of other aircraft bearing the name:

A Republic F-105D Thunderchief (60-0504) from 357th Tactical Fighter Squadron of the 355th Tactical Fighter Wing based at Takhli Royal Thai Air Base during the Vietnam War was named Memphis Belle II in honor of the original B-17F. The aircraft claimed two MiG-17 kills in addition to numerous bombing missions, and was the last F-105 to fly. It is currently preserved at the National Museum of the United States Air Force at Wright Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, Ohio. It was donated in April 1990.

A Rockwell B-1B (86-0133) was named Memphis Belle. In 1996, Colonel Robert K. Morgan, pilot of the original Memphis Belle, received the opportunity to fly in this aircraft, while it served with the 116th Bomb Wing at Robins AFB, GA.

A General Dynamics FB-111 (68-0267) was also nicknamed Memphis Belle II for a period during the 1980s. It is currently located at the Strategic Air and Space Museum.

Two Boeing B-52 Stratofortresses have carried the name Memphis Belle B-52G (59-2594) was named Memphis Belle III and took part in the 1991 Gulf War It was sent to the AMARC in October, 1992, and the first B-52H (60-0001) was named Memphis Belle IV It is currently based at Barksdale Air Force Base, flying for the 2nd Bomb Wing and has seen action in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

A Lockheed C-141 Starlifter (67-0024) became the Memphis Belle V. It has recently been transferred to the AMARC inventory.
A Lockheed C-5 Galaxy (69-0025) is named the Memphis Belle X.

there's something about the F-105, C-141 and C-5 that don't sit right with me. A few years ago, they made us paint over 133's noseart. It's now "old crow express III" and we think it's stupid.

Until I looked up the record, I wasn't aware of the 141 and 5 bearing the name but I was aware of the 2 B-52's, the B-1B and the Thud. I first saw that particular Thud in the Squadron Signal F-105 Thunderchief in Action book back in the early 80's. The reason I questioned about a B-17G bearing that nose art after the original F model, I have nearly every reference book there is on B-17's and had never heard or seen another wartime B-17 painted with the name/art.

OMG! This is the best thing since FSX came out! :jump: Today was the first time in a long time I felt a sense of accomplishment in FS.

Took off from my home field 20AZ and flew out to Chandler... landed with instructions for left hand pattern for landing on 31L @ Williams.

Cold start and all... left the co-pilot to handle the intercoolers and cowl flaps...... wow!

Very cool the co-pilot calling out speeds.... on landing he had just called 100 kts when 3 seconds later I touched down.

Perfect Landing and I did not hurt the engines!! The 377 kicked my butt... the B-17 is so forgiving I guess.

Full realism and I took off, climbed to 9000 cruise, landed and took care of the plane.

Not bad for a FSX scenery ground-pounder...must be in the genes I guess.:wiggle:

Going tommorrow to Love Field to see the Collings Foundation aircraft... going to go brag with my felllow pilots and show off my new knowledge. :icon_lol:

B-17 textures and things

KUDOs to Jankees and all of you talented fellows (ladies included if they are involved) that turn out these amazing textures for the rest of us to enjoy. I used to think I had more than enough memory to store all these bits. But....I'm now up to 40 P-51s and 15 B-17s plus all the others over the past few months that I have been re-involved in simming. Keep the good stuff coming, I'll buy an additional hard drive (hangar space) if need be. Salute to you pixel pushers. I'm starting to feel like Curtis LeMay.....so many aircraft so few missions....

Ol' Jarhead :wavey:
