There are a couple of pictures on page 76 of 'Strangers in a Strange Land by Hans-Heiri Stapfer - Squadron/Signal Pubications inc 6047, ISBN 0-89747-198-9'. One clearly shows the Blonde Bomber II soon after 'capture' in a very light scheme (black & white), and the second photo shows it in a darker scheme with possible? fading or a section left unpainted? on the upper nose just before the cockpit (black & white).
On page 74 it is mentioned (Quote):- 'In early September of 1943 the Germans repainted the Liberator, changing the Desert Pink camouflage to a less conspicuous overall Dark Green.' (Unquote)
From past experience factors such as time of day, film type, filter on the camera, weather, season, etc can all play a part in the look of a photo. Then photos are often retouched making it harder to determine.
Based on records I have read it would appear that the Blonde Bomber II was Desert Pink until after the Germans broke the nose-wheel and needed to better hide the aircraft, I would imagine that Desert Pink would definately stand out on a German Airfield.
Regardless of what colour, the repaint is a nice scheme, Allen any chance you can do a quickie and add a Desert Pink so we can have the best of both worlds ????? :ernae:
