Good evening,

I made the appropriate corrections to the auto-installer and uploaded it.

BoB Help?

First, I would like to thank everyone involved in this project. This is not a complaint, I’m just trying to get this up and running.

Just downloaded Rami’s latest BoB auto-install files. Using a new install of CFS2 with Richard Ludowise’s and Stitz’s work to create a dedicated ETO.

The first two auto-install downloads, (single engine planes and multi-engine planes) installs great. Everything works properly. Free flight, quick combat, and mission builder are all good.

Go to install the third download (scenery and missions/campaign) and I get the “Failed to initialize” message. So I try to manual install the download with no luck. I can play free flight only, no missions, no campaign.

BTW, I’m using Windows XP. I have also noticed I have over 1600 files in my ObjectsDp folder. I did remove most of the stock planes however, quick combat and mission builder worked fine with this done prior to installing the 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] download.

Any ideas what I should try to do? I would appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks,
msfossey

Thanks Allen. I think I have the "Failed to Initialize" bug worked out. But when I try to play a mission/campaign the sim gives me "Error loading mission file, may be corrupt" message. Any ideas?

msfossey

Try this:

Open the main folder of your CFS2 BoB install.

Locate the file: error.LOG & open it with notepad.

It will show any objects that couldn't load.

Msfossey,

Hey, just saw this after getting one of my sons back to sleep after a nightmare.

As far as the failure to initialize issue, try running the installer again, but this time, don't add any lines to the mdlnames.txt file.

But also, in my experience, with a full aircraft (100) and ships folder, the objects_dp limit (excluding .cdp files) is about 1,475 objects.

As far as the mission / campaign failure, is this happening to all of them? British? German? Are all of the aircraft working?

Msfossey,

One other issue....for all of the auto-installers, they are designed to be run off of a virgin install with an ETO / MTO / PTO scenery base. We did some checking this morning...the final object count is 1,253 objects with all components installed. That's over 200 objects below the limit...

The only other possible thing we're checking is to see if the objects_dp folder gets corrupted somehow, but I should think that would have surfaced with other comments by now.

Please keep me posted on the problem and your progress. We'll sort it out.

Question for you...

Hey guys,

Does anyone know what the stock object_dp count is for CFS2 on a virgin install? (Excluding .cdp files)

Msfossey,

I went through extensive testing, and realized that when you add Lindsay Watt's trees and objects, combined with the stock objects, you break through the glass ceiling in the objects_dp folder.

Accordingly, I will have to make a modification to the instructions, as follows:

"Due to the amount of scenery and objects required for this campaign project, do not use your original objects_dp folder in your installation of choice with this campaign package. Before running the installer, rename your original objects_dp folder to "objects_dpx" so that it will be retained as a backup, and your sim will run instead on the objects_dp folder containing the files specifically used for the Battle of Britain."

Thanks for speaking up and bringing this to light. :encouragement:

Fibber,

Thanks for responding. Can you do me a favor, please? Can you zip up just the .dp files for the stock aircraft weapons and either email them to me or attach them in this thread?

Thanks in advance,

Rami..........

.....being that it is well pass 1500 hrs that will have to be either tomorrow or later:very_drunk:

Hi Rami, I have Free Flight, Mission Builder, and Quick Combat working fine. It's when I try to fly missions/campaigns that I get the following message:

[Mission file error]
error=Unable to init unit 9182
title=August 1940 - Trouble lies off of Cornwall
filename=C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Combat Flight Simulator 2\CAMPAIGNS\August 1940 1

I have tried several from the British and several from the German campaings. No luck. When I manually installed I just droped the mission/campaign files into their corresponding folders in the game.

I have removed the Japanese A/C and ships, but have everything working properly after this was done. Don't think this would cause a problem with missions in the ETO?

I'll keep working on it, let me know if you have any ideas.

Thanks for the help guys,
msfossey

The error message "error=Unable to init unit 9182" means that an object which is identified as 9182 in the mission file is not able to be loaded. Open the mission are you trying to start file with notepad and scroll down at the bottom, you can find number 9182 and identify which object it is. Once you know that you will know what is causing the problem. It's probably a corrupted scenery object which can be replaced with a good copy.

OK, 9182 is the Brit_94mm_AA object in the scenery file. Make sure you have it in your SceneDB / inf folder. If it is in there it needs to have a fresh copy installed. If it is missing, load it in. Hopefully that will fix the problem. :pop4:

Rami, if you are still trying to lighten the dp load in BoF, don't forget you can remove the CFS1 buildings (unless you used them for some reason), as well as the American vehicles. :untroubled:
