Here is another one...this one was a real pain-in-the-butt, so I used a later version of this mission (after 25 May) as a model.

"summary_string"=Attention! Les chars ennemis bougent au sud de la Somme! Visability is much too low for the bombers to fly, but we must utilize whatever resources we have to try and stop these Panzers in their tracks. Your fighters will locate & strafe 'em, and maybe we'll get lucky and knock out a couple of them as we wait for this stubborn fog to lift; then we can then launch a full strike!
"objective_string"=During the morning of 24 May, Ms-406 fighters of GC III/2 tried twice to strafe Panzer columns in the area of Saint-Vallery-sur-Somme and Cayeux. During their first attempt, one Morane was badly damaged by ground fire, and during their second effort, two more Moranes were badly mauled. The Morane proved far too lightly armed & not sturdy enough to attempt any ground attack missions. This version of the event has been modified to have the attack be a single event, and the time of day has been altered to allow for a weather element to be included in the mission.
"intelligence_string"=Once airborne, you'll head for the Somme estuary & look for Panzers along roads near the southern edge. Unfortunately, visability for this sortie will be limited by fog that has not burned off yet, but this may also help disguise you from being spotted by enemy fighters & by the columns, limiting your exposure to ground fire. Use your cannon to make strafing runs on the tanks, and then clear out and return to Boissy-le-Bois once your ammo runs out. Let's hope you get lucky and can knock out one or more of them!

The towns of Bapaume and Péronne have fallen to the German advance, and we must strike these locations before the Wehrmacht has a chance to use them as places to concentrate armor or troops! Your flights will strike these towns and attempt to deny their use to the enemy. Let's show the enemy that they do not rule the skies, and that we are a long way from defeat!
"objective_string"=At about 1700 hours on 24 May, Martin Marylands from GB II/62 and GB II/63 left Evereux to raid Arras, Péronne, and Bapaume as they roamed over the front. During this sortie they were intercepted by enemy fighters, possibly from I/JG 51. One of the Martin 167s was shot down, another was badly damaged by flak and fighters. It is not known if they were escorted by fighters, but a small escort force has been added to your mission. This sortie also focuses only on Péronne & Bapaume, Arras is ommitted in this mission.

Over the front, you will raid these towns from a height of 4,000m to avoid ground fire and the thickest flak. The other flight of bombers will release on Péronne first, and then will remain with you while your flight strikes a factory complex at Bapaume. Following your release on Bapaume, you'll reverse course and head southwest ot return to Evereux. Because you will be close to enemy-held bases, it is likely you will be intercepted, so we hope the escorts will keep any enemy fighters busy. Bonne chance!

Be sure to watch out for flak over the area, & then return to England and await future orders.

As I incorporate Achim's new Belgian, French, and German airfields, I went back and revised two Stuka missions, one during the attacks in the Sedan sector on 14 May, and the other on 22 May; I had the Stukas hitting the wrong airfield, and was also able to use a more historically accurate base.

A couple of new missions completed today...
"title_string"=Battle of France (Stuka) - Stukakampfgeschwader 77
"summary_string"=Aufpassen Männer! 10th Panzer is currently trying to squeeze the British completely out of Boulogne, but the enemy has fortified the defenses, and we have been called in to hit the harbor, destroy the port facilities, and to sink enemy ships at anchor! Your Stuka gruppe is sending two staffeln to do the job, so as leader of the first staffel, let's do our part!
"objective_string"=On 22 May, StG 77 was requested by Luftflotte 3 kommander Hugo Sperrie to support the capture of Boulogne. For the next two days, StG 77 assisted 10th Panzer in their effort to take the city, & on 23 May 1940 they damaged the French destroyers Orage and Frondeur, the former so badly she had to be scuttled. The Stukas also struck the British destroyer Whitshed, killing one sailor & injuring thirteen. StG 77 paid a severe price; in two days' action, sixteen Stukas were lost, five from StG 77 on 22 May alone. The British managed to hang onto Boulogne until 25 May 1940, & evacuated several thousand soldiers and cilivians.

As you approach Lille, you'll meet up with the escorts and continue to the coast. In both cases, Fliegerkorps VIII was utilized as a close-support force, & StG 77 was sent to immobilize the French division. Using fragmentation bombs, the Germans succeeded in blowing the tracks clean off of the French tanks!

You'll lead your formation of four Ansons up to this area the Germans have claimed as their own and show them that they cannot claim the waters for themselves!
"objective_string"=During the evening of 25 May 1940, an Avro Anson Mk1 was brought down by a German E-boat off the island of Texel. With The Netherlands now firmly in German hands, Schnellboots began patrolling in the Zuiderzee & the Frisian Islands. In response, Coastal Command sent armed reconnaissance raids to attack these German patrols. This mission is an example of this. The total number of aircraft are unknown, but the amount would likely be very low. There's no indication the Annies were intercepted by enemy fighters.

A recce flight earlier today identified German E-boats in the Zuiderzee, and they have likely exited into the North Sea to patrol north along the Frisian Islands. "summary_string"=Achtung, kameraden! 109s of III/JG 2 are heavily outnumbered in a dogfight & have radioed for any assistance. We believe they're located somewhere between Péronne and Noyon. We must locate our bretheren in need and even the odds, because we cannot afford to lose air superiority with the most severe fighting yet to come!
"objective_string"=This is an amalgam of two separate French misions during the evening of 25 May. The first event saw French Ms-406s of GC III/6 jump German 109s of III/JG 2 between Noyon and Péronne. Just as the French got the better of JG 2, shooting down one, another flight of Bf-109s, this time from I/JG 21, intervened & downed two of the French fighters. This is combined with a recce mission a short time later by a Potez 63.11, which was badly shot up by flak and fighters of II/JG 3. Two 109s were shot up in this attack. In this scenario, French fighters are screening the Potez 63.11 that is on its recce mission near the town of Roye.
"intelligence_string"=Once airborne, you'll fly west-southwest to reach the town of Péronne, climbing up to 4,000m. From here, patrol to the town of Noyon, looking for the 109s last reported to be heavily engaged near the town of Roye. If you find them, peel off and lend them a helping hand, taking down as many French fighters as you can. Once your ammo is exhausted or the skies are clear, finish the patrol and return to Cambrai-Forenville for the evening.

It is also possible that another 109 from (3(J)/LG 2 was damaged by return fire from another Breguet, but records indicate that the aircraft was a Potez 63. The effectiveness of the raid isn't known. The escort for your mission is fictional, but given for your protection.

I'm adjusting the missions to play as a wingman to hone my formation flying skills, also toning down the bomber ai, the gunners are a bit too accurate for my taste. Your French package is something to look forward to. I tried to get into ground attack missions in il21946 before the big mods, but the environment was a bit sterile and you didn't feel like you were involved in a serious battle. I'll definitely give these a go.

1) If you fly as a Stuka or a bomber pilot, you are already a wingman. The Stuka especially has great AI attack characteristics, so you can literally play follow the leader to the target.
2) As far as the research is concerned, Hewman100 has been the primary researcher for this project. I have been working primarily off of these two documents, coordinating the loss reports with the mission reports to piece the puzzle together on a day-by-day basis. My challenge lies is making missions out of the data that are logical, combining separate missions, and omitting as necessary.

Good to know; this was a test-bed for the RAF fighter campaign. I’m trying to ensure repeated playability. The fighter campaign will have sixty-four missions in just sixteen days, so there will be a lot of "if-than" scenarios and "forks in the road."
