Good morning,

Here is another one...this one was a real pain-in-the-butt, so I used a later version of this mission (after 25 May) as a model. :santahat:

"title_string"=Battle of France - Use all the tools we have available
"summary_string"=Attention! Les chars ennemis bougent au sud de la Somme! Visability is much too low for the bombers to fly, but we must utilize whatever resources we have to try and stop these Panzers in their tracks. Your fighters will locate & strafe 'em, and maybe we'll get lucky and knock out a couple of them as we wait for this stubborn fog to lift; then we can then launch a full strike!
"objective_string"=During the morning of 24 May, Ms-406 fighters of GC III/2 tried twice to strafe Panzer columns in the area of Saint-Vallery-sur-Somme and Cayeux. During their first attempt, one Morane was badly damaged by ground fire, and during their second effort, two more Moranes were badly mauled. The Morane proved far too lightly armed & not sturdy enough to attempt any ground attack missions. This version of the event has been modified to have the attack be a single event, and the time of day has been altered to allow for a weather element to be included in the mission.
"intelligence_string"=Once airborne, you'll head for the Somme estuary & look for Panzers along roads near the southern edge. Unfortunately, visability for this sortie will be limited by fog that has not burned off yet, but this may also help disguise you from being spotted by enemy fighters & by the columns, limiting your exposure to ground fire. Use your cannon to make strafing runs on the tanks, and then clear out and return to Boissy-le-Bois once your ammo runs out. Let's hope you get lucky and can knock out one or more of them!

Good evening,

The final mission for 24 May is completed!

"title_string"=Battle of France - Marylands try to stem the advance
"summary_string"=Pilotes, les Allemands avancent rapidement le long de la Somme! The towns of Bapaume and Péronne have fallen to the German advance, and we must strike these locations before the Wehrmacht has a chance to use them as places to concentrate armor or troops! Your flights will strike these towns and attempt to deny their use to the enemy. Let's show the enemy that they do not rule the skies, and that we are a long way from defeat!
"objective_string"=At about 1700 hours on 24 May, Martin Marylands from GB II/62 and GB II/63 left Evereux to raid Arras, Péronne, and Bapaume as they roamed over the front. During this sortie they were intercepted by enemy fighters, possibly from I/JG 51. One of the Martin 167s was shot down, another was badly damaged by flak and fighters. It is not known if they were escorted by fighters, but a small escort force has been added to your mission. This sortie also focuses only on Péronne & Bapaume, Arras is ommitted in this mission.
"intelligence_string"=Once airborne you'll fly a direct northeast course to reach the towns of Péronne and Bapaume. Over the front, you will raid these towns from a height of 4,000m to avoid ground fire and the thickest flak. The other flight of bombers will release on Péronne first, and then will remain with you while your flight strikes a factory complex at Bapaume. Following your release on Bapaume, you'll reverse course and head southwest ot return to Evereux. Because you will be close to enemy-held bases, it is likely you will be intercepted, so we hope the escorts will keep any enemy fighters busy. Bonne chance!

Good morning,

It turns out there was one more Lysander mission in the hopper...

"title_string"=Lizzie Squadron - Protecting Calais from annihilation
"summary_string"=Attention! The Port of Calais has been surrounded by the Germans & is now under seige. Our trapped forces report they are being shelled by new guns positioned somewhere just to the southwest of the port. Your Lysanders will scope out the area near the village of Peuplingues, find the guns, and take them out! Let's help our brothers in need!
"objective_string"=On 25 May 1940, RAF Lysanders raided a German gun line set up near to the village of Peuplingues, southwest of Calais. The Germans were using this position to shell the Port of Calais, which was still in British hands to this point despite being under seige by the Germans. Although the Lysanders had to deal with heavy anti-aircraft fire, all of them returned safely to England. Unfortunately, there is limited detail on this raid, so the time of day is guesswork on my part, as are the actual number of aircraft involved.
"intelligence_string"=Once airborne, you'll climb up to Angels 8 & head east-southeast to reach the French coastline near Cape Gris-Nez. The town of Peuplingues lies along a road running from Boulogne to Calais, so you'll intersect it shortly after landfall. Once you find these gun positions, dive on them to maximize your hitting power and take out as many as you can. If all your bombs miss, make a strafing pass before leaving the target. Be sure to watch out for flak over the area, & then return to England and await future orders.

Good afternoon,

As I incorporate Achim's new Belgian, French, and German airfields, I went back and revised two Stuka missions, one during the attacks in the Sedan sector on 14 May, and the other on 22 May; I had the Stukas hitting the wrong airfield, and was also able to use a more historically accurate base.

Good afternoon,

A couple of new missions completed today...

"title_string"=Battle of France (Stuka) - Stukakampfgeschwader 77
"summary_string"=Aufpassen Männer! 10th Panzer is currently trying to squeeze the British completely out of Boulogne, but the enemy has fortified the defenses, and we have been called in to hit the harbor, destroy the port facilities, and to sink enemy ships at anchor! Your Stuka gruppe is sending two staffeln to do the job, so as leader of the first staffel, let's do our part!
"objective_string"=On 22 May, StG 77 was requested by Luftflotte 3 kommander Hugo Sperrie to support the capture of Boulogne. For the next two days, StG 77 assisted 10th Panzer in their effort to take the city, & on 23 May 1940 they damaged the French destroyers Orage and Frondeur, the former so badly she had to be scuttled. The Stukas also struck the British destroyer Whitshed, killing one sailor & injuring thirteen. StG 77 paid a severe price; in two days' action, sixteen Stukas were lost, five from StG 77 on 22 May alone. The British managed to hang onto Boulogne until 25 May 1940, & evacuated several thousand soldiers and cilivians.
"intelligence_string"=After takeoff, form up with the other Ju-87s and fly due west to reach Boulogne, climbing to 4,000 meters. As you approach Lille, you'll meet up with the escorts and continue to the coast. As you near Boulogne, be ready for heavy flak with warships in the harbour, and this close to the British coast, you should be prepared for intercepts from RAF fighters of 11 Group. Your Stuka flight will attack the anchored destroyers, while other flights raid nearby ships and harbor facilities. When finished, clear out and return to Brustem. Be sure to watch your fuel, you will be running low as you return to base.

"title_string"=Battle of France (Stuka) - Stop the division cuirassée
"summary_string"=Meine Herren, zuhören! A French tank division has now penetrated behind our lines & are threatening to cut off and encircle our lead Panzer units! Our Stukas have been ordered to locate these French tanks and destroy them before they can attack or even encircle our Panzers! Let's show these enemy invaders the power of the Stuka!
"objective_string"=This mission is an amalgam of two days; 17 and 19 May. On both days, general Charles de Gaulle used his 4th tank division reserve and attempted to try and slice behind the lead Panzer elements pushing toward the Channel & cut them off. In both cases, Fliegerkorps VIII was utilized as a close-support force, & StG 77 was sent to immobilize the French division. Using fragmentation bombs, the Germans succeeded in blowing the tracks clean off of the French tanks!
"intelligence_string"=Once airborne, you'll fly south-southwest & climb to 3,500m. As you near the village of Montcornet, your three Stukas will hit a factory complex while the other three Stuka flights seek out and attack the French tanks that have been spotted near the town. Once your attack is complete, you may clear the area or make strafing runs to assist the other Stukas who may still be executing their strike. If you stay, depart when your ammo is exhausted and then return to Brustem to refuel and reload.

Good morning,

One of the last Stuka missions...

"title_string"=Battle of France (Stuka) - Forward-deployed oddities
"summary_string"=Kamerad, herhören! Allied forces are stubbornly holding fast to the city of Namur; this threatenes the right flank our units already across the river. They are using the railyard at Namur to load and send supplies to other areas of the Belgian front! Your Stukas will attack this target, and hopefully this will help Namur to cease being a threat to our advance!
"objective_string"=By 16 May 1940, the breakout at Sedan relative to the rest of the Belgian front meant units deployed at forward airfields, such as I/StG 77 at Rocroi, actually flew north-northeast to raid targets and provide close support in areas of the front where advances were slower. This is an example of such a mission; it represents the effort of I/StG 77 on targets around Namur, Belgium on 15 and 16 May. Given the fact that it was only this staffel, these raids were probably on the small side. Any losses aren't known, but it is not likely the raiders were intercepted.
"intelligence_string"=After leaving Rocroi, begin climbing hard to reach 4,000m before you reach Namur. Because this is such a short haul along the Meuse, you can use the Meuse after leaving Rocroi to navigate past Dinant to Namur itself. Over the city, you'll raid a large railyard on the western edge of the city. Because this sector has been relaively inactive, we doubt you will be intercepted, but be ready just in case. Once finished, head back to Rocroi to refuel and reload.

Good evening,

Here is another mission from 25 May...

"title_string"=Battle of France (RAF) - Annies go visit the Zuiderzee
"summary_string"=Listen up, men! The Germans have been sending out small naval vessels to patrol the Zuiderzee and the waters just off of the Frisian Islands. You'll lead your formation of four Ansons up to this area the Germans have claimed as their own and show them that they cannot claim the waters for themselves!
"objective_string"=During the evening of 25 May 1940, an Avro Anson Mk1 was brought down by a German E-boat off the island of Texel. With The Netherlands now firmly in German hands, Schnellboots began patrolling in the Zuiderzee & the Frisian Islands. In response, Coastal Command sent armed reconnaissance raids to attack these German patrols. This mission is an example of this. The total number of aircraft are unknown, but the amount would likely be very low. There's no indication the Annies were intercepted by enemy fighters.
"intelligence_string"=After taking off, you will form up with the other pair of Ansons and fly northeast, away from Kent, toward the Frisian Islands. A recce flight earlier today identified German E-boats in the Zuiderzee, and they have likely exited into the North Sea to patrol north along the Frisian Islands. Once near Texel, you will locate them and use your bombs to attack them. Hopefully we can sink one or more of them! Once you release your bombs & then make a strafing pass or two, return to Detling. Be sure to watch your fuel level, you may not have much of a reserve left!

Good morning,

More completed missions...

"title_string"=BoF Jagdgeschwader - Assisting your kameraden
"summary_string"=Achtung, kameraden! 109s of III/JG 2 are heavily outnumbered in a dogfight & have radioed for any assistance. We believe they're located somewhere between Péronne and Noyon. We must locate our bretheren in need and even the odds, because we cannot afford to lose air superiority with the most severe fighting yet to come!
"objective_string"=This is an amalgam of two separate French misions during the evening of 25 May. The first event saw French Ms-406s of GC III/6 jump German 109s of III/JG 2 between Noyon and Péronne. Just as the French got the better of JG 2, shooting down one, another flight of Bf-109s, this time from I/JG 21, intervened & downed two of the French fighters. This is combined with a recce mission a short time later by a Potez 63.11, which was badly shot up by flak and fighters of II/JG 3. Two 109s were shot up in this attack. In this scenario, French fighters are screening the Potez 63.11 that is on its recce mission near the town of Roye.
"intelligence_string"=Once airborne, you'll fly west-southwest to reach the town of Péronne, climbing up to 4,000m. From here, patrol to the town of Noyon, looking for the 109s last reported to be heavily engaged near the town of Roye. If you find them, peel off and lend them a helping hand, taking down as many French fighters as you can. Once your ammo is exhausted or the skies are clear, finish the patrol and return to Cambrai-Forenville for the evening.

"title_string"=Battle of France - Prowling the roads before sundown
"summary_string"=Attention! Les chars allemands se déplacent au sud de Cambrai! You will find the Germans and attempt to stop the enemy in their tracks! We must prevent the Panzers from roaming throughout our country unchecked, so let's show the Germans that we will not allow them to move without a fight!
"objective_string"=On the evening of 25 May, Breguets of GBA I/51 and GBA II/54 were in action around Cambrai and Saint Quentin, hitting German columns. The French lost two Breguets to Bf-109s of I/JG 2, & another Br-693 was badly mauled by heavy ground fire. It is also possible that another 109 from (3(J)/LG 2 was damaged by return fire from another Breguet, but records indicate that the aircraft was a Potez 63. The effectiveness of the raid isn't known. The escort for your mission is fictional, but given for your protection.
"intelligence_string"=After takeoff, you'll fly northeast until you reach the city of Cambrai. After reaching Cambrai, head in a southerly direction along a road toward Saint Quentin. The enemy column should be on this road. Once you locate the Germans, strike 'em with your bombs and try to take out as many of them as you can. If you miss, fire your guns and make strafing runs. Make sure to keep your speed high over the enemy columns to avoid getting mauled by ground fire. When finished, return to Guyancourt for the night.

Wow Rami? You've certainly done your research research here, great work. I'm still plodding through through your Bob missions between terrain editing. I'm adjusting the missions to play as a wingman to hone my formation flying skills, also toning down the bomber ai, the gunners are a bit too accurate for my taste. Your French package is something to look forward to. I tried to get into ground attack missions in il21946 before the big mods, but the environment was a bit sterile and you didn't feel like you were involved in a serious battle. I'll definitely give these a go.:encouragement:

Good morning,

Here are a couple more for 25 May....really making progress now.

"title_string"=Battle of France (RAF) - Hunt krauts above Flanders
"summary_string"=To your fighters! Your two squadrons will patrol over Flanders and along the Pas-de-Calais, looking for Luftwaffe patrols or reconnaissance aircraft. The area has been somewhat quieter today, but we must still be prepared for any raids on our forces attempting to flee Calais. Let's hope that we can attract a little attention and keep the enemy busy!
"objective_string"=This is an amalgam of two patrols flown by 17 and 605 Sqn during 25 May. The Hurricanes flew two patrols taking them from Hazebrouck to Courtrai, then Dunkirk to Calais. On the second patrol, two 17 Sqn and one 605 Sqn Hurricanes were damaged by friendly fire over Dunkirk. On the first patrol, they shot down a Dornier Do-17m & a Hs-126 over Hazebrouck and Courtrai, respectively. The same Hurricanes also found unescorted Stukas of StG 2 attacking shipping off Calais, and shot down six of them! This mission flips the order by having the Stuka intercept happen at the end of the mission rather than early in the mission.
"intelligence_string"=After taking off, you will cross the Channel and patrol over the Pas-de-Calais and into Flanders at Angels 15. You will begin at Hazebrouck and then continue to Courtrai, Belgium before you turn for Dunkirk and patrol down to Calais. Watch for any German reconnaissance planes or Stukas attacking shipping near these ports. Take down any aircraft you encounter, and then return to Hawkinge once your ammo runs out. Good luck!
"player_aircraft_name_string"=AH_Hurricanemk1 607 Sqn
"airfield_string"=England - Hawkinge

"title_string"=Battle of France - Reconnaissance Dornier in the sky
"summary_string"=Attention! Un avion de reconnaissance allemand a été aperçu dans la région et pourrait planifier de futures attaques. You must find this enemy plane and take it down before it can escape! If you are successful, we'll deny the enemy the intelligence they need to push further into France. If you fail, we will be exposed to future attacks!
"objective_string"=This is an amalgam of two sorties flown by pilots of GC III/6 on 25 May. One Ms-406 of GC III/6 was lost just northwest of Soissons by return fire from a Dornier Do-17p from 2(F)/22 flying photo recon above Meaux. This Dornier caught fire over Vézaponin and was forced to belly-land at Guise. The other 406s may have continued their patrol to Péronne, where two more were lost to Bf-110s of 13(Z)/LG 1. It is possible these were two separate encounters, but the mission has been written as if they were one. The chance of a Bf-109 intercept near Soissions is fictional, but added to heighten the urgency of shooting down the Dornier.
"intelligence_string"=After takeoff, head northwest toward the city of Meaux, where this Dornier seems to be headed. If you reach Meaux & the Dornier is above you, climb hard to intercept before it can radio for help and receive fighter cover. If you fail to shoot it down before nearing Soissons, you might have to engage enemy fighters. Once the reconnaissance Dornier is eliminated, fly up to Peronne for the last leg of your patrol before returning to La Ferté-Gaucher.

Rince33,

Two things...

1) If you fly as a Stuka or a bomber pilot, you are already a wingman. The Stuka especially has great AI attack characteristics, so you can literally play follow the leader to the target.

2) As far as the research is concerned, Hewman100 has been the primary researcher for this project. I have been working primarily off of these two documents, coordinating the loss reports with the mission reports to piece the puzzle together on a day-by-day basis. My challenge lies is making missions out of the data that are logical, combining separate missions, and omitting as necessary.

Good morning,

Only three more left for the British on 25 May...

"title_string"=Battle of France (RAF) - Kain gets a Dornier at Rouen
"summary_string"=Attention, men! Your section drew the short straw last night, so you'll fly a patrol over the Lille area and sweep for any sign of German reconnaissance aircraft. If we're to evacuate at Dunkirk, then we must keep Lille and the four airfields there firmly in our hands. Let's make sure that our mates in the Lille area are kept safe!
"objective_string"=This is a amalgam of two or more sorties flown by Hurricanes on 25 May, and is based on 73 Sqn. On this day, 'Cobber' Kain of 73 Squadron shot down a Do-17z near his base at Rouen. In addition, 242 Sqn shot down a Do-17 flying reconnaissance over Lille. Just to the north, a He-111 of Stab/LG 1 was damaged by flak & fighters at Wervik, near Lille, and another Heinkel of 2(F)/122 was damaged by RAF fighters in approximately the same area. The sortie combines the scattered events into a single patrol flown by 73 Squadron.
"intelligence_string"=Once airborne, you will head northeast toward the old abandoned airfield near Merville. From there, you'll fly over Lille & turn north toward Morselle airbase in Belgium, just a bit east of Ypres before turning back for Rouen. Over the area, be sure to look for any enemy aircraft flying reconnaissance and hack them out of the sky! Over the Lille area, remain at Angels 12 to ensure clear visability. If you exhaust all of your ammunition, head back to Rouen so your ground crew can reload. Good luck!

Good afternoon,

Here is the final mission for the BEF timeline campaign, which is 22 missions in length...

"title_string"=Battle of France (RAF) - Spitfires caught Swordfishing
"summary_string"=Attention, chaps! Fairey Swordfish are being sent out to hit Gravelines, and they will need all of the help we can provide. You will assist the effort by lending top cover for their mission, and help their escort shield 'em from any interception by German fighters. With Bomber Command taking high losses, we must try to protect the ranks of the Naval Air Service as well! Let's give it our best on this one!
"objective_string"=On the afternoon of 25 May, three RAF Spitfires of 54 Sqn were shot down & another was damaged by Bf-109s and Bf-110s of I/JG 26 and I/ZG 76. These Spitfires were escorting Swordfish of 825 Sqn NAS to strike Gravelines. The slowness of the Swordfish put the Spitfires at a big disadvantage, and they were badly mauled as a consequence. It is not known if any Swordfish were attacked, but no losses were reported. The Spitfires did manage to shoot down a Bf-109 and a Bf-110 in exchange for their losses.
"intelligence_string"=After takeoff, you will climb over the Estuary and turn for the Kentish coast, passing near Hawkinge on your way out to sea. Because the Swordfish is so slow, you will rendezvous with 'em as you near the French coast. You will fly top cover for them, while Red and Blue sections provide close escort. Your task is to assist the escort fend off attacks on the highly vulnerable Swordfish. Anything that you can do to draw German fighters off will help. Once their raid is complete, they will retire to the coast, crossing Calais, and then turn northwest. This may be a rocky mission, so we will need your best efforts on this one!

Good evening,

Here is the final mission for the RAF bomber campaign....I ended up separating AASF French-based missions from the English-based RAF missions. :wiggle:

"title_string"=Battle of France (RAF) - Bridge-busting along the Lys
"summary_string"=Let's get moving, men! The enemy is using bridges along the River Lys, north of Lille, to advance into France and block our withdrawal route to Dunkirk. You must hit and destroy these bridges to prevent German forces from achieving the goal of cutting off our main route of evacuation and best chance at safety!
"objective_string"=During the late afternoon of 25 May, 21 Squadron bombers raided pontoon bridges near Courtrai and Menin, Belgium on the River Lys. Over Belgium, one of these Blenheims was lost to heavy anti-aircraft fire. Based on the information available, it can be assumed that the entire squadron was involved, so this mission is based on that premise. There's also no evidence the bombers were intercepted or had escorts, so they weren't added to the mission. Due to the limitations of CFS2 scenery, the bridges in the area are permanent structures.
"intelligence_string"=Once airborne, you'll head southeast over England and the North Sea to come ashore in Belgium near Ostend. As you near the target area, each section will hit their own bridge; yours is a modern steel bridge in the city of Courtrai, which the bombers will attack first. After your Blenheims strike the targeted bridge, remain in formation as the other two bomber sections will attack bridges nearby at Menin. Once they finish, you will return to Watton for the evening.

Cody,

I ended up with two separate endings for this campaign. Does this work, or do I have to go back and revise? (I'm not getting any errors during self-testing)

"campaign_name_string"=Battle of France - RAF Bomber Command
"campaign_overview"=In the opening days of the Battle of France, the initial deployment of the AASF proved fully inadequate in holding back or slowing the German push west. In response, the Royal Air Force began using England-based bomber squadrons for tactical missions aimed at preventing the push west from Maastricht, and then supply depots, bridges, airfields, and as the situation grew more desperate, German Panzer and vehicle columns in the days leading up the Dunkirk evacuation. Fly with Bomber Command and do what you can to assist our forces in France!

Hi Rami,

I don't see any problem with it. Looks good to go.

P.S. My biggest campaign has five endings (and 533 nodes). :encouragement:

Cody,

Good to know; this was a test-bed for the RAF fighter campaign. I’m trying to ensure repeated playability. The fighter campaign will have sixty-four missions in just sixteen days, so there will be a lot of "if-than" scenarios and "forks in the road."
