Best classic airliner for FSX?

While I wait until all votes are cast and I finally decide on a classic tube I must keep in shape by flying my favorite classic airliner of all time. Paint is mine, one of a series I did back then.

While pondering what CaptainSim aircraft to buy, pass the time by flying Tom Ruths DC-10 and 727.

Now what was the tv show about stewardess,,Ah yes Pan Am. And what did they fly? 707 ?

That series was kind of a guilty pleasure.

Well, I uninstalled my CS727, ran Regcleanerm and then installed the new versions of the CS727-100 and 200. All is working fine, and I see a slight increase in fps.

That brings up a question I have about CS updates. They must charge for some because they have a 10e discount if you own a model that has been updated. So question is do I get the latest version when purchasing or do I have to then buy an update after purchasing?

Also heard they had a sale this time of year and at Christmas.

JF DH106 Comet

I like this one.

Yes I have that one also and love the style and the way it fly's. As for the Capt. Sim 707 I did download the demo and found I have the black line spiking in the vc bug so that one is out.

Although I have spent a lot of time (as a pax) in tubeliners in the '70's and '80's, "classic airliner" to me would me mean a Constellation or a DC-6. Am I too old school? I guess I read too much Ernie Gann. BTW I love the Delta livery on the A2A 377. Did they actually fly that type?

No, don't think Delta did fly the 377. I did a bunch of skins in a series of what if they did stuff.

Here are a couple more, most are available at flghtsim.com

The more I think about it I believe the OP could not find a better classic airliner than the A2A B-377.

I agree that the sibwings AN-2 is a very good payware addon and most probably the best for money. Very detailed and very well made in all aspects.
But, its all about flying style. I dont have it installed anymore, its to sluggish for me. Not enough "chispa". But if I had been in one as a passenger, I´m sure I would feel different.

Today I installed (at last) the FSX SDK and played with ModelConverterX with the FS9 AFG Caravelle, hosted by Historic Jetliners Group (HJG).

Looks easy enough to convert a FS9 MDL to a FSX native MDL. But it's a well known fact, all animations are lost and must be redone one by one. What a pity... Not to mention copyright issues... Old story... as old as FSX...

Then I merged this native FSX Caravelle exterior with the Justflight Comet VC. It works! Did you know that the Caravelle nose area and cockpit layout were both taken directly from the de Havilland Comet? (wikipedia)

Of course this experiment is doomed from the start. But we could have plenty of wonderful classic airliners and aircrafts in FSX if copyright and animations issues could be sorted out easily! I remember reading a post by Bjoern saying just that...

Imagine the possibilites, too much to list. Just one example: Samdim An-24 with Piglet An-32 cockpit...

You have to delete any visibility-tagged stuff in MCX as the code won't port over.

Animations require careful attention and manual tagging with the (approximate) FSX equivalents.
And good luck trying to figure out what "unknown" anumations are doing...

This thread has made me "rediscover" (always been a favorite aspect of this hobby that you can dig deep into the hangar and find renewed enjoyment . .) the CS 727-100. What an overall satisfying experience.

Only annoying thing is that AVG sees the latest 2.5 exe as a virus threat and keeps removing it! Others are having this issue and it stems from CS's anti-piracy software built into the update being recognized as a virus by AVG and other AV progs, which is a bit annoying that their convenience is at the expense of paying customers . .

But I digress and would highly recommend the CS 707 and 727 as classic tubes.
