C-130 purchase advice needed, please

Paul K

SOH-CM-2025
I see there is a new update for the Milviz C-130J ( version 0.8.9 ) which looks interesting. Meanwhile, Captain Sim has both a H and J model C-130.

I'm assuming that the Milviz model is a full FS24 version, while the two CS models are primarily for FS20, but are fully functional in FS24. ( Am I correct on that ?)

I am focusing on dedicated FS24 models from now on, but I will make an exception if a really good FS20 model works properly in FS24.

So, does anyone have any views and comparisons between the two developer's models in FS24, please ? Any info and guidance will be gratefully received.

Yes and yes, though not sure on fully functional - I haven't tried the cargo dropping etc in FS24.

Really there isn't a comparison - the Milviz D30 is way more complete and complex and accurate than the CS version.
Problem is it's a late model with horribly complex LCD panels everywhere, whereas the CS E and H are lovely analogue cockpits.
So depends on what you want!

Previous releases of the Beta D30 were very power hungry and my PC struggled in VR, haven't tried the latest yet, too busy with black friday...

I got the CS H in their annual $9.99 sale, should come around soon.

Thanks, Keith - good info. Still considering...

Forget the C-130 Turkey. Going through flight training no one wanted the C-130. Fighters first, then maybe a jet transport, but the 130, no thanks.

Sorry, but I don't understand why you posted this. I'm looking for advice and recommendations about C-130 add-ons for MSFS2024.

No, but I sat in one once back in the 70's, had a couple of college friends that flew them.

I don't either, so that makes two of us!
Maybe you should hold off on such posts in the future. With 3,500 hours in the Herc, I can tell you that it's an absolutely fantastic airplane - and my hours were in old tired Vietnam era 'E' models. Based on numerous discussions with many pilots who've flown them, the newer 'J' model and upgraded versions of the 'H' model are simply outstanding.

Agree with "keithb77" on what you are getting with the MV/Blackbird Dirty 30. Beta tested prior to the team moving to only a 2024 release. Real world input helped make the model as accurate as possible with a big focus on avionics. Despite all the issues with the CS business model when released on MSFS, I had to have a Herc in game and got the "H" for 2020 (on sale). If you had the model in FS9, one would feel right at home as really nothing has changed. Not all functions are there in 2020 so I assume 2024 is the same. Hoped for some updates, but nothing has really happened. The CS "J" is also just an external model, I doubt the FM is changed to account for the new engine/props.

I had the CS Herc in FSX ( and P3D I believe ) so, as you say, I'd feel at home. However, I'm slowly gravitating towards the Milviz one. Not quite yet convinced, but it's heading that way. Thanks for the response and info. (y)

I fly the CS C130H, and I love it. I enjoy the retro panel (the autopilot works well, but you have to learn to use it). To me, with no IRL experience in a Herc, it flies believably. It's great on performance, and it looks really nice. I haven't tried the Blackbird model due to rumors of performance issues.

If you want a study-level-C130J in FS2024, there is no way around Blackbird. But its beta. Has an incredibly deep system that takes time to learn. Everything is new. And that's extremely exciting and satisfying for me. But it's not for after-work flyers who want to jump in quickly.

And yes, I also have the CS130H, but I haven't touched it since the D30 came out.

Thanks for the info, Thomas, and those super screenshots! I'm still ruminating over which way to go. I'll be interested to hear whether SU4 makes any difference to the Blackbird model's demand on resources, q.v. Regardless of that, one or other of these C-130s is heading my way - if you don't like the Herc, you don't really like aeroplanes.

The Herc is probably my all time favorite aircraft. Id say if you're planning on purchasing the Blackbird model you could also get the CS model when they do their annual year end $9.99 sale. Its not as in depth but looks great and its still fun.

Thanks for that - I shall keep checking the CS shop for the sale. Still veering towards the Blackbird model, of course. ;)

Post if you spot the sale as I've got a few purchases pending :)

I did back-to-back flights in the two Herks, sitting in the cockpit it's clear the Milviz is much the better, but the CS flight was more enjoyable due to the analog cockpit and the better performance. But I'm flying a beta product in VR on just (!) a 10 GB 3080...
One problem with the CS is that several knobs on the side panels are pink - missing textures.
It's a 2020 aircraft running on 2024 so not surprising but I'll see if that can be fixed.
