C-97 BETA now available for download!

I'm a bit late to the party (again..) and I have just downloaded the KC-97. It is a stunning work of FS art, thank you! Great work by the repainters as well, we have already got a nice selection to choose from!

I'm literally stuck with a problem. I'm flying the KC in P3D and I cannot get it rolling on full power. I have seen the problem mentioned with something to do with friction, but I cannot find any solutions.
Any advice is much appreciated!

Just had an opportunity to check the old girl out with Patch#2 and what can I say:ernaehrung004: You need more fingers than a fiddlers quartet sometimes but it's now not only possible to navigate with the radios.. it should be compulsory!! I'm not sure if the toggle-ident was there before but having sat for some time thinking how nice it would be to have a DME.. I happened over the toggle-ident position and there it was:biggrin-new: Odd that the RMI doesn't show some VOR's and even more odd that the toggle-ident will display both IDENT and DME (when toggled) for the tuned station. I can only put this down to another FSXism rather than anything being wrong with the RMI.

As an aside.. I bought the 377 (COTS flavour) in the VE day sale and while there's no disputing the quality of the package.. I have more FUN in the C97:encouragement:

Dave, if the RMI pointer isn't registering a VOR it may be that you are looking at the wrong needle. The new RMI gauge has two VOR needles, marked "1" and "2". At any one point you can see only one of them. However, you can use the new 'swap' button to switch from one (VOR1) to the other (VOR2). Initial display now defaults to VOR1, unlike in the first version of the gauge.

Hi Manfred:wavey:

Yes.. taken as read. I used both indicators on the flight and both worked fine. It may just be that particular VOR. I'll pop back and check it again. It was certainly not a TACAN.. a TACAN wouldn't have given DME. I was running FSCommander at the same time to get a constant view of all available navaids and DME from the radio was exactly as shown on the FSC window so the needle should have been active. I flicked between 1 & 2 a few times on the RMI for this particular VOR too. It could be operator error do I'll revisit that VOR again;)

EDIT: Manfred.. it wasn't the model nor my mishandling of the radio. Having revisited the navaid in a different aircraft with the same results.. I zoomed in on the FSC map. What looked like a VOR with an NDB inside it is actually a DME with an NDB!! Rare things are DME's not coupled to VOR's and it really did look like a VOR until I removed NDB's from the map. I wondered what use a DME on it's own would be but of course.. coupled with an NDB.. you get both direction and distance. Problem solved.

Roger that, Dave, and thanks for again testing the nav system.

I, too, have the A2A 377, but it seems impossible to hitch them up -- I mean C-97 exterior plus 377 interior -- without major hiccups. Pity that.

Yup.. someone mentioned doing just that early in the thread but to be honest, that wasn't a consideration. I've always liked the 377 (the real thing) and am more than happy to have the A2A model remain intact and your C97 to stay 'as is';) I've loved the C97 model from day one and it just gets better. Whatever the flightdeck ends up looking like.. I'll be happy:encouragement:

That looks absolutely beautiful Duckie. But do I detect U.S. AIR FORCE on the nose?? Looks as if it's still there on the spec or spec-alpha. Possibly there to simulate its removal and shadow remaining on the metal?? I've seen photos of KC-97's with the Arctic red removed and it does leave a messy shadow.

And two more to complete this series of Help Screens. These will all be integrated into the next Monitor Patch.

It's a beauty Duckie.

Will dl as soon as I get home from work.

Looking Bloody Brilliant Duckie :encouragement: in military terms .. that's a LBBD

Thanks for your kind comments Gents.

Thank you Dave, and you are correct. :encouragement: The reference I have for this bird clearly shows the remnants of the U.S. AIR FORCE banner from an earlier attempt at removal of same.

Staions?

Had a question about the boom operation. What is difference between the two stations 350 and 750? Does it change the location of the boom when extended or does it change how much of the boom is extended?

Thanks for that Steve:encouragement: It couldn't be straight forward could it!!:biggrin-new:

I like.. whenever possible.. for a model to have some association with the UK.. hence me scraping around the net. There are probably more shots of L's than G's in the UK (more colour shots for sure) but I'll try and trace the Squadron to the airframe then see what colour the band should be.
Thanks again mate;)

Any advice on getting the KC-97 moving on the ground in P3D? On full power the aircraft will not move.

I ran into that issue myself. The only fix I've been able to find is to offload lots of fuel (via the fuel and payload menu). It still takes gunning the throttles to get it rolling. Might possibly be a realistic behavior given the weight of the aircraft, though I've had similar problems with some (not all) other aircraft, for example the A2A B-17. I've found the B-17 rolls off better if you use pushback to move it out of its parking spot. Haven't tried that with the C-97, though. I haven't had much time for testing the last few weeks but I'll try to get back to it after updating it and see if I can come up with other workarounds.

I tried it again and it did not move, started in the air and did a full stop landing and then it accelerated to take off speed in a normal fashion..

Nothing to do with the amount of boom extension. (Fuselage) Station 350 designates the forward belly PDI lights, Station 750 is the belly blister with the lights marked UP, FWD etc aft of the wings. Only one of them is active during a rendezvous (except for breakaway). The boomer decides which, he has the switch for that (see Monitor > Boom). It's usually sta 350 for bombers, 750 for fighters.

JensOle, previous P3D users reported all was OK there. Which version P3D are you running? Perhaps post a screenshot of the Monitor Panel at the point when it doesn't move even though you have Throttles full open? Have you also tried the Throttle > to (takeoff) preset?
